Plaxico -- Cuffs Make the Man

With his hands cuffed firmly behind his back, Plaxico Burress just left a NYC police precinct after turning himself in on a felony weapons charge. He'll be arraigned sometime this afternoon, we're told.

As he was placed in handcuffs, sources say Plax "looked really, really down ... shellshocked."

16. "This guy could of killed someone. Jail...period."

Really? Who is the victim? Whose natural rights did he violate?

He "could of"? Are you suggesting punishing him for a hypothetical crime?

Law is based on violating another individual's rights. Plain and simple.

At most, he violated a contract with a private establishment forbiddening weapons. A city law cannot violate the Constitution, as it is the supreme law of the land. This guy has every right to carry a concealed weapon. If he accidentally shoots someone, that is a crime. But "could of" is NOT a crime in our great Republic.

Think about YOUR NATURAL RIGHTS before you start saying we should lock up everyone because of a possibility not yet realized.

17. Actually, "could of" has no real meaning, anyway. Everyone says that wrong - it should be "could HAVE". People tend to shorten it up to sound like "could've" which is not proper English, but it is better than "could of" which is just plain ignorant.

18. 1. His Florida carry permit was expired, therefore invalid.
2. NYC does not honor Florida carry permits even if valid and unexpired.
3. NYC requires a license to own a firearm.
4. NYC requires an NYC carry permit to carry.
5. Carrying where alcohol is served is not legal.
How many laws did this clown break? Plenty. In NYC it's a MANDATORY 3 years in jail for illegal possession/carrying. He should get it and do the time. It's idiots like this that give the anti-gun lobby the excuse they need to try to take away honest, law abiding citizens gun rights.

19. Adam, it's also about harms to society. The crime is posessing a concealed weapon in NYC without a license. If I did it, I would go to jail if caught.
Personally I don't like guns, but I defend a persons right to have one, if they follow proper procedures. Clearly he did not.
The fact (if the press is accurate) that he discharged the firearm is disturbing, but doesn't change his case one way or the other, but it's actually the reason this law came into being.
Every year people in this city and country get shot by stray bullets. People not intended to be the target getting hit. Too many guns in the hands of unregistered users who don't know a thing about the gun they have. Really should learn how to use a gun before going anywhere with it.

Even if he never shot someone, he still broke the law just for possessing the loaded firearm in a concealed fashion. Should he be treated any different than any other person in NYC. Lived here long enough to know that it is well established law here that carries jail time..... period.
Next time he should go out in one of those parts of the country that doesn't have a population of 10 million cramed into a space less than 300 sq miles.

21. All I can say is Wow. I own a pistal. 38special. I would not dream of carrying it on my person for fear of shooting my own fool self or an innocent person. What if I tripped and fell? What if some one fell into me? Why carry a weapon into a crowded club and be dancing? I didnt know this fool was an NFL star nor do I care. Like others said, had that been one of us regular citizens we would be locked up with a bond we cant even post.
I am sick and tired of folks just because they can sing dance throw a ball catch a ball win a superbowl or a few games being treated special and many times walking free. Its not right, its not fair, and sooner or later these fools will do their own selves in
Like one Michael Vick. Vick had many incidents he was foolish in handling prior to something that stuck.
A mother of four was shot and killed a month ago in Atlanta while combing her daughters hair. Her crime? Being in her Apartment with her children. A stray bullet killed her. YES YES YES I got a problem with you carring a concealed weapon and I am near or in the vincinty. He needs a Hefty fine that should go to victims of STRAY bullets. 1000 hrs of community service and six months suspension. Then he can back to running a ball down the field. Second offense. JAIL like any other regular Sean, Lashuan, Mike, Bobby, or Reggie.
