While he is a horrible actor, he is a personable kid I ran into him at my local bank branch in downtown Portland, Oregon when he was in town to film Twilight. He was polite and amicable. He had no clue how to open an account, and the girl from the bank was patiently walking him through the process -- even though he walked through the door with his agent 5 minutes before closing time to do it. I still think it's a shame that the producer and director for the sequel have dumped all the Native American actors and replaced them with Filipino actors instead.
