'Reading Rainbow' Host in Car Accident

LaVar BurtonLaw enforcement sources tell TMZ LeVar Burton was involved in a car accident in Los Angeles early yesterday evening.

We're told Burton -- who hosted "Reading Rainbow" and starred in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Roots" -- collided with a car making a left turn at the intersection of Laurel Ave. and Beverly Blvd. at around 7:30 PM PT.

Our sources say Burton and the other driver were both taken to a local hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

UPDATE: The accident occurred when a 74-year-old woman made a left turn in front of Burton -- he struck her car and then hit a parked car, causing a chain reaction that damaged two other cars. Both LeVar and the woman were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and released.

33. I'm glad both LeVar and the lady are O.K. The VISOR device was constructed from one of those "banana" hair clips that used to be popular back in the "80s. "Reading Rainbow" did do an episode from the Bridge of the "Enterprise" and linked it to books about making television shows. Best wishes for the future, LeVar Burton!

34. Oh yeah, I remember that woman who pretended to be a nurse or a paramedic or whatever her Walter Mitty Complex told her to be that day. She was a total LOSER. I hardly think having a CPR card qualifies one to call themselves a "Paramedic". I really liked the flashlight in her back pocket. Lucky that the LAPD showed up before she was able to give Levar an enema.
