Settlement Near in Jackson Custody Case

7/17/2009 4:40 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

We're told lawyers for Debbie Rowe and Katherine Jackson are working out a custody settlement and the discussions are amicable. One source connected with the case tells us, "It should be settled very soon."

Micheal Jackson's KIds
As for what they're discussing, our sources say the custody of the children -- not money -- is the issue on the table, but that it looks pretty clear Katherine Jackson will end up with custody, assuming the judge goes along. As for what Debbie Rowe wants ... we're told she too is interested in making sure the children are okay.

We're told Rowe is still collecting money from an agreement she and Michael struck several years ago, around the time of the child molestation trial. That agreement was drafted so it will survive Michael's death.

As for additional money, we're told Rowe is not requesting that. In fact, our sources say lawyers for Jackson's estate have not even been consulted about the discussions between lawyers for Katherine and Debbie. If there were any issue of additional monies, the estate lawyers would have been consulted.

what is the lawers doing about Omer Bhatti who is belived to be micheal jacksons real son, he is even willing to do a blood test but they keep dismissing it, why not get the test done and if he is mj son then joe can try to make him a singer like he did micheal without the beating and taunts, there should do a pole to see how many people agree that Omer Bhatti should get a blood test and if it is belives and proven that he is mj son then he should be involed in the family, at least they will have a true part of mj alive and with them....

I respectfully disagree with anybody who states that children can be passed on by terms of a will.

Children are not chattel. The "needs" and "best interests of the children" are what the agencies and the courts look to. For those that disagree, please post the case citations that deem the children to be akin to chattel.

I personally believe that if Debbie Rowe can be established as jumping through the hoops, i.e. maternity, good moral repute, interest in being a parent (yes, I know that for money she acceded several years ago for quite a lump of money). amd the interest in being a parent for the next 10-12 years, then her more steady, and I have to say this, white household and environment is probably best as these two children get into the real critical developmental, social and educational state. Debbie is the appropriate age, rather than a grandmother who will shortly be in her 80s, and possibly will not see the children thru high school and college.

No disputing that Michael appears to have been a fun parent, almost like a playmate. But, this may not have been desirable in the years to come.

I'll be disappointed and troubled if Debbie takes the money and runs, which IMHO is not in the best interest of the children. The serious question is removing the 2 children from the entertainment family environment from their earlier childhood and substituting a hopefully dedicated, but more steady single mother for their tween, teen, and college years.
