DJ AM's Family -- Give Donations, Not Flowers

DJ AM's Family -- Give Donations, Not FlowersDJ AM's family is asking his fans to not spend their precious cash on flowers -- and instead donate to a couple of charities that were dear to the DJ's heart.

AM's family went to his MySpace page to issue the following statement:

"We appreciate the kind words and support for Adam over the past few days. Due to your inquiries, in lieu of flowers, AM's family would like to suggest making donations to the following charitable organizations: National MS Society, Southern California Chapter ... or Friendly House"

A rep for Friendly House -- an organization dedicated to helping women recover from alcohol and drug abuse -- told us AM "was a supporter of Friendly House and would show up at our luncheons. I am kind of glad we were even mentioned at this awful time."

2. It is a nice thing to do, donate something to help the people whom most need help. But, even so, I think that somebody in TMZ staff was a close friend of DJ AM. This coverage is overrated and this guy is becoming more well-known now than when he was alive.
Anyway, rest in peace, DJ AM.

3. As a recovering addict myself, DJ Am was delt a truly crappy hand when that plane crashed. He needed the pain killers and anti-anxiety medication in a real way. Unfortunately, it reactivated his addiction.

I hope that the public can get over the sensational circumstances of Adam Goldstein's tragic death and focus on the solid years of sobriety he accomplished and all the good he did during those years.

It is so easy to judge, but he made a mistake and this was the relapse that took his life. I suppose when any of us, addict or not, has been in a crash and traumatic event like he experienced, we will be in a firm place to point a finger at how he passed away. I really hope he will be remembered for all the good he did for addiction awareness rather than the tragic events that caused him to relapse and die.

I want to offer all my best wishes to his family and to all the people who cared so much for him.

5. It is sad that DJ AM will be remembered for how he died, rather than how he lived.

Adam Goldstein was dealt a really crappy hand of cards when he was in that plane crash...the pain meds and anti-anxiety meds made him prone to a relapse.

It is so easy to judge and to try and find controversy, but he tried to help so many people during more than a decade of sobriety. We should remember him for how he lived, not for how he tragically died during a relapse that had understandable reasons.

We all make mistakes.

6. I don't understand what the big deal about this guy is. He was just another crackhead who OD'd.

And I wonder why TMZ has a graphic of a record for him but for Michael Jackson they put up a gpraphic of a drug canister. Why not put up a graphic of a crack pipe? After all they both were drug addicts right?

7. Wow, "havoc"...you are so judgemental! Obviously you have never had an addict in your life. The guy made a mistake after 11 years of sobriety!

Tell you what...after you are one of two survivors injured in a fiery plane crash, how about you offer your marginal opinion to the entire world! The guy suffered serious injuries that required him to take addictive prescription pain & anxiety meds! It was a slippery slope when combined with his "survivor guilt" that all people feel in that situation and his prior drug addiction.

I suppose when you die, we should all just write it off as just another death of a completely stunned and ignorant person?

10. Havok (No 6)

DJ AM WASN'T A CRACKHEAD AT ALL. HE WAS ONE 12 YEARS AGO THEN STOPPED and something happened. He was sober 12 long years. He didn't even drink during that time. This is a guy Dr Drew can't say enough good about and calls "MY GOOD FRIEND".

11. 11 years sober in hollywood is almost a world record. Give the guy some credit. How many people there do you thinnk stayed sober that long? Kids? That's about it besides him! The rest are at least smoking some weed.

14. that's awesome, someone given a second chance in life and blows it. Yet...my dad dies of cancer, every doctor he saw says it's from Rocky Flats, where my dad worked pretty much his whole career. Why would anyone donate to his stupid ass, he had a drug problem before the wreck. My dad gave his life for the country and yet this stupid ass blows it. GOD BLESS AMERICA LOL....idiots.
