Unlike Elvis, who went and served his tour of duty, dont forget that "The Greatest" (Ali) went to jail and then changed his name to Muhammmed Ali just to get out of the military service. Coward!!

Elvis was in Germany...but he lived off base in a comfortable home along with his Daddy and friends...

because he was afraid to live on base with the other drafted soldiers.

He drove a jeep for some higher up.

When will the bull**** ever end?

Probably never.

Celebrities don't "serve" in any honorable manner. They usually are employed in an entertainment capacity or some cush job stateside or well away from combat operations. They only celebrities who saw combat (an lots of it) was Eddie Albert from Green Acres and Audie Murphy.

At least Elvis was in uniform, unlike those who ran to Canada or changed their religion to Muslim to avoid ANY uniform! There are many in the service today who have cushy jobs. So what! Serve your time, cushy or not!! Dont go to jail and change your religion and then tell me your the Greatest!!

Really? Tell that to Jimmy Stewart, Charles Bronson, Rod Steiger, Ernest Borgnine, Mel Brooks, Neville Brand, James Doohan, George C Scott, Brian Keith, Tyrone Power, Charles Durning, James Arness, and Walter Matthau - all who served in active duty and saw battle.

While we shoud thank a service member every time we see one, this day is not about just anyone who has served. It's about those who GAVE THEIR LIVES...this is a day for memorials, hence the name. It was once called Decoration Day, to honor the gravesites of the fallen. This day is about all who have died in service, from Civil War to present day, so let's remember the lost today, celebrate all veterans on Nov 11th, and know the difference between Memorial Day, Veterans Day and 4th of July. Memorial Day should be remembered somberly, with at least a moment of reflection for those who DIED in service to their country.

These aren't hero's, they didn't serve to protect our country, Elvis was drafted, went to Germany, partied and came home. My brother in law served 3 tours of duty and was in the front trenches, being shot at every day he served overseas. He's the hero, as are all men who served and fought for freedom. Not some stupid hollywood people who did it for photo ops.

Pat Tillman died in service in Afghanistan. How very disrespectful to a veteran. You need to change your caption immediately!

Why, with the exception of Pat Tillman, aren't there any younger celebrities who have served in the military? All the celebrities you've shown were more than likely drafted instead of voluntarily enlisting. Elvis was a joke in uniform. Clark Gable enlisted during WWII, but back then it was the thing to do to show your patriotism. These days, everyone talks about how brave our military men and women are, but no one wants to join them.
You would have done more justice to show pictures of real men/women in today's military than celebs who served, but may not have necessarily done so had they had a choice.

You forgot Audy Murphy. He was a fine actor from ages past, but also one of the most decorated American soldier of WWII.
