Michael Jackson's Kids Get Schooled

8/27/2010 10:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Two of Michael Jackson's kids have taken a big step -- leaving homeschool for one of the most exclusive private schools in the country.

Michael Jackson Kids School
TMZ has learned 13-year-old Prince and 12-year-old Paris started at The Buckley School in the San Fernando Valley on Wednesday.

Family sources tell TMZ ... Prince wanted to go to Buckley to have "a social experience."  Initially, Paris was reluctant but changed her mind in a big way.

As for 8-year-old Blanket -- he's still going to be homeschooled. Katherine Jackson feels he's too young to venture out.

Among the alums -- Matthew Perry, Alyssa Milano, Nicole Richie, Nicollette Sheridan and Laura Dern.

By the way, some other grads even went on to do sex tapes and became famous -- Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian.

They are obviously so much better off with MJ being gone.

What a horrid thing to say. These are his kids, they lost their Dad. Is this what you are getting from this board?? That you believe that because the kids don't wear Masks and are going to school now, they are better off???
I'm sure they would gladly put there masks back on ......stay with the home schooling, if it meant they could have their Daddy back. What the hell !!!!!

Why is blanket too young to venture out at 8yrs old. Don't most kids go to Pre-K at 4???

TMZ Quote
"went on to do sex tapes and became famous"????

Don't you think that statement is a little extreme?
This was an article about KIDS going to school!
Do you not have any moral compass, at all?
Even if what you said was fact. The point that you had to bring up the adult film industry, while writing this piece about minor children, is in my opinion, strange and odd. Seriously if these were my kids, I'd sue you, for defamation of character! Who does your proof reading? Honestly, they should be fired.

How absolutely low of TMZ to publish the name of the school these children will be going to. These children are not seeking any kind of limelight and yet TMZ is doing their best to make their attendance at this school a miserable and stress filled one by letting the world and every paparazzi in town know they will be going there. Shameful to treat them this way.

Well I guess Blanket just isn't ready...which I guess just goes to show that none of the kids have been forced into this, and everything is happening at the childrens pace.

Good for them! All the best to you, kids.

This comment is entirely inappropriate on a board covering children. TMZ never ceases to amaze me...just when I think they couldn't sink any lower, they hit a new low.

Chico - all tabloids believe they have to have a twist to every story, because if they don't, it shines through how empty the whole setup is. This kind of stuff that they add is the only form of creative outlet they have. And they are so sleazy that they think it's humor.

Publishing the name of the school was really unnecessary, but that's of course because it might generate new stories.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the tabloids just stopped covering children under 18? (And remember that starlets under 21 are actually kids as well?) Michael's children could do a photo op twice a year just to say hello and show Dad's loving fans they're OK, and then disappear again - WITHOUT having their looks and clothing commented on.

Katherine thinks and (would) do with her grandchildren what she did with her children and does not understand that if Michael had wanted send them to school he would have done it, but Michael is not there and so she can do whatever she wants with those children. Even and above all expose them to the excessive attention and to the unpleasant media comments. Just what Michael had so carefully avoided.

I do agree that schooling them out of the home is a bold step...perhaps the children have voiced their interest in trying this.

They are only children. They do not have the wisdom of an adult.

Yes the media attention is still a concern, however , since the children have been unmasked , I do feel that the massive curiosity surrounding the kids has somewhat subsided. The fact that They children were often photographed with Michael,( masked ) it just added to the mystery.

I don't think so. Media attention could not be like now because they were protected from all these unpleasant things.

I think Michael always first and foremost wanted to protect his children. Things have changed now, and I think the children should be given the opportunity to mingle. Schooling out of home may or may not work..time will tell. But I do think they should be given the chance.

Yes, the things are changed now. In worse. Very sad.

Im with you Chico, Ive had it. TMZ you went way to far with the sex tape/MJ kids in the same story. These are really sweet innocent kids and its media like you that end up destroying these kind of kids as they get older. I sure hope the media stays away from this school for I as well feel everyone on the student body is a risk. We don't need some child's foot getting ran over! Just stay away TMZ and everyone else!

I think this is a great initiative by Prince, and a good thing that Paris follows suit. He's a teenager and soon so is she, and they need to be exposed to the world and to a school class - with all the good and all the bad.

It will help them grow as human beings and teach them to solve problems, especially relationship problems. Their father never got that chance - he went to school only for a few years, and after that he was a star an everyone said yes to him most of the time. He tried to bring himself up, making a point of being kind and polite, but as someone who met him said - you learn social skills in school, and he didn't go to school.

Prince and Paris will meet a totally new reality, and if I could give advice to them, it would be - don't give up if the going gets tough! You'll have to tackle good and bad people, balanced people and people with problems. Be kind and helpful, but take care of yourselves, don't let anyone use you. Best of luck!

I see we agree to disagree which is ok. I know the children are just that and do not have the wisdom of adults. However I do believe that they have lived a life surrounded in alot of adult company and most reports say they are very mature for their age. Part of growing up in my opinion is learning to make choices, some good some bad, in the long run being able to learn from them.
Protecting them from unpleasant things IMO is not preparing them for the real world. Unpleasant things happen to people everyday. Life is not full of magic and wonder everyday.
They are choosing to step outside the bubble.......and I'm ok with that. Michael CHOSE him Mum to be the guardian of his children.
She is letting them try these things and Michael made the choice to let her.
