Movie Theater Playing 'Last Exorcism' Burns Down

9/4/2010 8:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A drive-in movie theater in Oklahoma burned down yesterday -- was it arson, a freak accident or the work of ... the devil?

See, this Tulsa landmark -- The Admiral Twin, which opened in 1951 -- was playing "The Last Exorcism." It was also playing "Predators," but those aren't real -- so we can rule them out as a suspect.

Bill French, Tulsa Fire Department public information officer, told the Tulsa World on Friday night that investigators were still not sure how the blaze started.

TMZ contacted the Tulsa Fire Department to see if they suspected a demon, someone possessed by a demon or even Satan himself had something to do with the blaze.

So far, no response.

What I find strange is that this happened to our same landmark on the same day.. We are devastated. Admiral Twin Drive-In is a was an awesome place.. I think it's crazy that they both burned down the same day. In fact, i think it's crazy that the pics resemble each other so much!

I live 1.5 miles from this place. Sad loss really. But TMZ, you do realize this is the drive-in that was used in the movie, The Outsiders, don't you? Just surprised that wasn't mentioned.

I live in Tulsa, too, and I don't understand why people are so upset about this. An old drive-in in a bad part of town burned down. You do realize how lame that is and that there are people with ACTUAL problems in the world, right?

I agree with #14, it was probably some religious fanatic doing "God's work".

I'm the first to laugh at a joke, but this is not funny. The Admiral Twin had a huge historical significance to the city of Tulsa and surrounding areas - not to mention Route 66. The sparks from the fire caused several cars to catch fire that were driving on Interstate 244, and all surrounding area firefighters responded to and fought the blaze. In 2005 this location won a $35,000 makeover from the Save-A-Landmark contest sponsored by the Hampton Hotels. Also, the movie 'Outsiders' was filmed here.

You are entitled to your own opinion if you think this is funny. However, this is article is just wrong. Find other stuff to write about for people to read. How about having some class and removing it from your site?

I'd be suspicious of those huge bronze prayed hands across town at Oral Roberts Univ.

Well thats a shame!!!!!!!!!!!! Drive in movies should of not ever been closed down to begin with, and so few left and this one burns down. Insurance possibilities preying on the theory that this is some kind of twisted faith ? Somekind of answer from God that The Last Excorcism shouldn't be played or what? These things are only possible if you believe it. I say look to the owners and they're debts.

Well for anyone who claims its an insurance claim; there was no fire insurance. They couldnt get covered because this structure was built back in the 50's and out of wood. This was a historical site. I hung out there as a teen and my kids have been there too. This place represented a time when things were normal, before economy was killed by puppet presidents, before we had to worry about the days terrorist alert rating, before our teens were popping out babies like pez candy. One of patrick swayzes first films was filmed here.....

You are a sorry excuse for news reporting. How do you think this article is appropriate? In general, and as a Tulsan, I am greatly insulted. This was a land mark, literary and cinematic part of history and you mock it by what movies are playing? Shame on you.

The good thing about drive-in movie theatres is that you can rebuild the screen in a matter of days, because, hey! no walls!, no roof!, no floor!!!!!!!!!

Drive-in theatres need to become the rage again. Everybody go to the drive-in theatre next weekend with a hot date and spend the entire time making out. What was that movie again?

To #35 you are entitled to your opinion and obviously don't value history. Yes there are people with problems in the world and some of those problems now have been caused by the loss of the drive-in. None of us know what memories and important parts of life this drive-in has been a part of so who are we to judge people being sad over this loss.

You can't rule out the predators, they are very real....
I saw a bunch of them walking around in San Diego this past summer.

90% of the people born in the 20th Century were conceived at a drive-in theater! Now everybody needs to be retrained how to arrange a hot date.

If Mann's Chinese Theater in LA burned down, would you poke fun? After all isn't that a part of LA heritage? The Admiral Twin was a treasured landmark in Tulsa, and many Tulsans, including myself have fond memories here. It's is a devastating loss for a city proud of their Route 66 history. TMZ is nothing but trash.
