Charlie Sheen suffered a hiatal hernia in his stomach -- not an overdose -- and it may have triggered the 911 call that landed Charlie in the hospital.
Sources tell us the hernia is located in Charlie's stomach. The condition causes acid and food to back up into the esophagus ... and we're told it causes "horrible, horrendous pain."
Charlie will spend the night at the hospital.
We're told Charlie has had a hiatal hernia for years.
As we previously reported, Sheen was hospitalized early this morning.

Uh, a question, TMZ. Why did I just see under "Also on TMZ" Charlie Sheen dead at 45??? I clicked on it but there wasn't anything there...and now it's gone. Anyone else see that?
funny thing is one of the top causes of a hiatal hernia is cocaine/drug abuse! ****ing loser.
My Mom used to get that condition a lot. It is extremely painful. Had to take quite the regimen of daily pills to keep it in check. Charlie should be very careful. Now that he knows he has this condition, he should take steps to prevent it.
#12, I'm sure your mom's condition is very, very different than Charlie's.
It's a good thing he's rich and famous, because he's ugly as hell. At this point I couldn't care less what happens to this guy. He obviously doesn't, so why should anyone else?
