Groupon Pulls Controversial Super Bowl Ad

2/11/2011 10:37 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The website has decided to pull its series of Super Bowl ads that promote their site ... while making light of serious world issues.

Groupon says, "We hate that we offended people, and we’re very sorry that we did ... We thought we were poking fun at ourselves, but clearly the execution was off and the joke didn’t come through."

They should have pulled them before doing this spot with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

Not offensive in the the beginning of the commercial it shows Tibet as a beautiful country and then it switches to the joke...not offensive...but actually pretty funny!

wow...i wouldnt want any of the offended people defending my country if they get rattled so easy, just like everyone got rattled during Janet's superbowl thing....ease up, sit back and have a beer and look at things thru the big picture. nobody cares really. its only an issue because its an issue, but nobody really cares. and I think groupon did a great job of getting mubarak out of egypt for only 70 billion dollars or whatever he has by getting swiss banks to freeze his accounts. i think i will handle all superbowl commercials from here on in, with the help of Charlie Sheen of course.

Ahahaha, Flora68 thinks we should all pay closer attention to real news, like celebrating that Egypt is finally free! I wish that I could give Flora the benefit of the doubt and believe that she was trying to be facetious and ironic, but I'm afraid she may just be dim enough to believe what she said. Overthrowing Mubarak was not good for the US, nor was it good for the people of Egypt. If visions of democracy spreading through the middle east are dancing in your empty head, then you will be disappointed. A democracy won't last because any country that wants it is thought to be too influenced by the US, too westernized, and they become a target. Israel could tell you all about it. They have the closest thing to a democracy. Any hope we give the people in Iraq will disappear when our troops leave and Ahmedinejad starts working his magic. It happened in Gaza, it happened in Iran when Jimmy Carter supporting the exiled Ayatollah regaining power, and now it's going to happen to our few remaining allies. When you have no moderation anywhere over there to provide any kind of stability, things get ugly.

Flora, maybe instead of rediculing people for commenting on the entertainment articles published on a website that specializes in entertainment articles, maybe you should head on over to, I don't know, the Encyclopedia Brittanica's page and discover the political history of the middle east.

It is offensive, racist, and true.
