CBS Reporter Sexually Assaulted in Egypt

2/15/2011 6:15 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

CBS News reporter Lara Logan was sexually assaulted after being surrounded by a crazed mob in Tahrir Square on Friday ... moments after Hosni Mubarak officially stepped down.

Lara Logan

According to CBS, Logan and her crew were covering a story for "60 Minutes" when they were surrounded by a mob of more than 200 people and she was separated from her security team.

CBS says 39-year-old Logan "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers."

CBS continues, "[Logan] reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering."

Logan and her team had been detained by Egyptian police 8 days before the sexual assault -- and Logan had reported, "We were accused of being more than journalists, very frightening suggestions were being made. Suggestions that really could be very dangerous for us."

She's been in Iraq she knew the danger yet she choice to go out into a mob of men who have no respect for any woman let alone a obviously foreign woman...I'm sorry for her injuries buts its no different then standing in the middle of a railroad track with a train coming down the track..you don't move you are going get run over...Its not the train fault its hers.......

If I remember right she was involved in something similar in Iraq........you'd think she would learn..

To all the posters that said it serves her right... you are wrong. Nobody deserves that unless they have done it to someone else. Also, whatever her personal sex life has been in the past is none of your business. She wasn't out raping people to deserve this.

Second, unfortunately the risk comes with the territory. The journalists who go into war-torn zones and countries with political unrest are well aware of the risks. While many might not fully realize them, others know they might not come back. Plenty of journalists have died in war zones or have been detained and executed by foreign governments all in the name of telling a story to the world. You guys are too quick to condemn her.

First, I want to apologize to Lara Logan and her family and my heart goes out to her. But as you all know, Egypt is not safe at the moment and that is due to some pro Mobarak thugs out there and mobs who were released from jails!:S so, women should not go out alone especially at night!. Finally, I just want to say thank you to the ignorant comments saying we dont deserve freedom and that we are a bunch of animals! God bless

"Sexual assault," are we talking rape or a boob grab?

Tamara - all i'm saying is that if she was raped than say she was raped. If the "sexual assult" involved something else than say what that was. There's no need for CBS to all of a sudden get Victorian in their reporting.

My intuition tells me this story is not true. It creates a golden opportunity for "people" to malign Egyptians, how convenient. Also I wish "people" would stop trying to insult others by calling them "animals". As an animal lover I deeply resent when those haters spit out such name-calling. It should be a compliment to be compared to an animal. As for the Egyptians, give them a break and stop your muslim-bashing. We are all brothers and sisters.

You're one of those hysterical idiots that go around chanting the Holocaust didn't happen, 911 was created by the American people and you believe raping white people isn't a sin because whites are the devil.

People of the Mid-East believe raping white people isn't a sin because whites are the devil.

People of the Mid-East believe whites are the devil because the people in the Mid-East are bitter from living in the desert.

No food, no water and no privacy makes for 10,000 of a bitter legacy.

Blame the victim, ketjo.

There are many George Sodini-type losers in the world who have been rejected by women and then developed an extreme hatred of them, even wishing that they be raped or killed. They justify their hatred in a number of ways, including blaming the victim for the harm she suffered.

CBSshould be ashamed of yourselves for their press release about Lara Logan their own reporter!

they could not just say that she was raped theyhad to sensationalize it by say she sustained a brutal and sustained sexual assault.

And to top it off they had to also put her picture with the caption(just moments before she was assaulted).

The misogynist posts here are not surprising. There are many George Sodini-type losers in the world who have been rejected by women and then developed an extreme hatred of them, even wishing that they be raped or killed. They justify their hatred in a number of ways, including blaming the victim for the harm she suffered or minimizing the horrible act by claiming that it was merely a "slap on the behind".

Nice try misogynists, but we see right through your pathetic existence.

Really,,,,what does she or anyone else expect? Does she think that she is so special, that as a journalist for a foreign country she has rights? Get real, if you want to have your American Rights, stay in America. I am bi-cultural person born in the USA, who abhors Americans who think they can to go to other countries and demand their AMERICAN rights and justice. Get REAL. There were people being killed and jailed in a riot situation..and she wonders how she was targeted? She should know her environment and know how easily she would be targeted in an Arab nation.

Sad part, of many, is that they'll likely all get away with it because of the chaos . . .
