The Aflac Duck

Silent But Violent

3/22/2011 9:15 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

With Gilbert Gottfried fired for his tsunami jokes ... the people at Aflac found a clever way to keep their famous duck alive while they hunt for the replacement voice ... and it's the oldest trick in cinema.032211_aflac_v2_still

TMZ obtained a copy of the new Aflac commercial -- a re-edit of a 2006 spot -- and even though the duck gets hits by a frickin' train ... we're told he'll live on ... and a new voice will be selected soon.

Quack. Quack. Quack.

I like it! Very cute. I'm really glad that Aflac stood up and took action against Gilford joking about Japan and fired his azz. I like him and all - I think he is a funny guy, but his jokes against Japan were in very poor taste. When American celebs do these sorts of things it just makes us seem heartless and selfish in the eyes of the rest of the world.

@weird al yankovich

You aren't too bright are you? AFLAC's biggest market is Japan, so yes, I would say they do care. Gilbert insulted the vast majority of their clientele, and was fired for it.

I am sure that if someone chokes on the fries you served them and you crack jokes about it, you would be fired as well.

1. This commercial is old
2. Aflac receives the majority of its business from Japan, so they had no choice but to can him.

It's pure coincidence that Gottfriend made an inappropriate 'joke' about the tragedy in Japan, and that Aflac does a lot of business in Japam. I've been associated with this company for going on 12 years, and they are VERY ethical. They pulled all their commercials from Mike Savage's right wing radio show last year when he said some HORRIBLE things about children affected by autism.

The cancer indemnity plan they sell is nothing short of brilliant. It's very affordable, they have never raised a rate class in 55 years, and claims are paid in 3-5 days.

Certainly the quake and tsunami in Japan will affect sales slightly, but Aflac is aboslutely HUGE; they have annual revenues over 60 Billion, (wth a "B") and they do a LOT of business right here in the U.S. Almost every state government is an Aflac account, as well as several large unions. But the beauty of this insurance is that their rates are NOT dependent on the size of the company, which means that Joe's Fix-it Shop with 3 employees can enjoy the same exact policies AND rates that an enormous corporation with tens of thousands of employees.

Little known fact: Aflac owns and operates an award-winning, state of the art research and treatment facility for pediatric cancer in Atlanta. No child is turned away, regardless of whether or not they have health insurance. There is a blood disorders clinic too...these people literally save the lives of thousands of kids who were previously diagnosed as terminally ill. Check it out; if you go to their website, you can learn about the Cancer Center and even buy a quacking plush duck...100% of the proceeds support the kids at the cancer hospital.

In a day and age of corrupt corporations and insurers who try and find any loophole they can NOT to pay claims, Aflac is a breath of fresh air.
