Willie Nelson Pot Case

Let Him Sing for His Freedom

3/28/2011 6:01 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Willie Nelson’s pot possession case could end on a high note -- because the singer may get off with little more than a small fine ... if he agrees to SING IN COURT.

Willie Nelson

Nelson was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession back in November ... after U.S. Border Patrol in Texas found weed on his tour bus -- but the prosecutor in the case is willing to let Willie off with a $100 fine ... if he sings "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” INSIDE  the courtroom.

According to the prosecutor, the song would count as his community service -- but Willie's punishment ultimately rests in the judge's hands.

No word if Nelson will accept the offer ... but it's a good deal -- because if he gets convicted he faces a maximum of 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Is this a flippin joke? Our court system needs a TOTAL reboot.
Of course I'm all for Nelson and pot but asking somebody to sing in court to get off like some sort of trained monkey goes to show how STUPID it was to take him to court to begin with! Bunch of morons. Texas... surprise, surprise.
I guess it could be worse, they could try to fry to guy for smoking pot!

Well, I can't sing worth a crap. But I do a mean load of laundry. So can I rob a bank, get caught, and do the judge's laundry instead of going to jail?!

Who does this prosecutor think he is, some kind of king who can either free or punish prisoners on a whim? Why should Willie's punishment be based on whether or not he grants a personal wish of the prosecutor? Willie should not be forced or pressured to do such a ridiculous thing because this isn't the medieval times and Willie's not a court jester! This ought to be considered extortion or blackmail, and the prosecutor ought to be fired for using his power for personal gains instead of delivering EQUAL justice to ALL no matter who it is. This sort of thing creates a mockery of the justice system!

Don't degrade yourself by performing for him, Willie. Pay the fine and keep your dignity, knowing that the prosecutor's already lost his.

Whether he sings for his freedom or not, Willie Nelson has started a country wide movement to legalize marijuana. Teapot Party branches have popped up in ALL 50 states now. Check out my artist’s blog and the poster I made of Uncle Willie! http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/01/vote-teapot-2011.html
