Little People Sue 'The Soup'

They Defamed Us!

3/29/2011 10:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A  dwarf couple is suing E! Entertainment and "The Soup" host Joel McHale, claiming they made scurrilous, false, defamatory and hurtful comments about them.

Cara and Gibson Reynolds are dwarfs who struggled for years to have children. One child died a day after birth, but they were finally able to conceive a healthy baby.

The Reynolds' did an interview with the Associated Press about dwarf couples who want to screen their embryos for genetic defects in an effort to intentionally have healthy, dwarf children.  They say the article and photo of them was limited to the AP article (reprinted on MSNBC.com).

Fast forward to 2009, when McHale and company did a spoof on "The Soup" titled, "Fertile Little Tattooed Pageant Parents Who Enjoy Baking."  McHale said it was the newest reality show, and then proceeded to show the AP photo of the Reynolds, saying they are "happy dwarfs ... that can't stop procreating."

And it got worse.  "The Soup" then allegedly showed a woman purported to be Cara in labor, in the process of giving birth in a bathroom.

Cara claims the piece was so upsetting, she suffered, "depression, insomnia, upset stomach, sleep interference and experiencing feelings of shame and degradation."

The Reynolds are suing for defamation and invasion of privacy.

We could not immediately reach E! for comment.

Let "The Soup" do what they want to do. Freedom of speech, who cares.

These people suffered the tragedy of having their newborn baby die. They should never be the subject of a joke about procreation.

Seriously, can't you people read? The couple are not the same people that are in the little people reality show, and certainly did not go on TV. They simply did a small interview with the AP and had a picture taken, which The Soup lifted and used for it's own comedic benefits. They signed a release stating that the picture and interview could only be used for the article's purposes, not strewn on some stupid parody show called The Soup! More than likely, this couple will win the suit, and I will be very happy when they do, because they did not deserve the disrespect that they received. If they actually did go on a reality show to "whore themselves out" like most of you are saying, then I really wouldn't care, but they did no such thing. Also, you people making the small jokes really need to freaking grow up! What is it with TMZ commenters making fun of every difference out there? Obviously you're all incredibly immature!

Ok not nice to be ridiculed but they shouldn't have gone there in the first place, unfortunately there is always someone after a cheap laugh and someone elses expense and as un PC as it may be they set themselves up for that. Hope they get the money though!

These two idoits are ridiculous. There is NOTHING healthy about having dwarf children.

I wonder what these two big-headed fools would say if two down-syndrome people wanted to have kids.

Ok so yes the spoof may have been upsetting, but they first put themselves out there to the public eye. If you want all your business private then keep it that way. The second you expose yourself to the media, they are going to run with it. So you should be strong willed enough to take a few bullets or you shouldn't be putting yourself out there. Just another stupid lawsuit that's going to make a nobody rich, like McDonald's coffee lid not informing you that its contents are hot...Ridiculous if you ask me!

So if they are intentionally trying to have dwarf children. Would they be mad if they had a normal hight kid. Messed up either way.
