Charlie Sheen

Bombed in Detroit

4/3/2011 10:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Charlie Sheen got heavily booed and people walked out of his show in Detroit tonight.

0331_charlie_sheen_EX_TMZ_01
According to multiple people inside the Fox Theatre ... the majority of the audience heckled not only Charlie, but his buddy Simon Rex, who came out and started rapping.

We're told Charlie started the show with a Q&A session -- answering audience questions about everything from fave porn stars to crack cocaine (see the crack joke here). Then Charlie played clips from a network interview he did and ripped it apart.

At one point, Sheen tried to deflect the angry crowd by pointing out that he had his own app ... and they didn't (see video above).

That went on for about 30 minutes ... and the crowd was initially cheering for Charlie. He even sent out a twitpic of the enthusiastic audience.

But then the crowd got ugly.

We're told Charlie called on Simon Rex for backup ... sending him on stage to rap -- and when that backfired they played the new track, "Winning" ... which Snoop Dogg recorded for Charlie.

We're told that got the crowd fired up ... but when neither Snoop nor Charlie came out on stage they started booing again.

At that point most of the crowd started walking out -- and the house lights were turned on.

We're told Charlie did come back on stage briefly and invited the people who stayed to move up closer to the stage ... but then he started complaining about his audio and walked off the stage.

Understand that we're not listening to or watching a healty, fully-function person whenever he opens his mouth. We're listening to the effect of whatever substance is in his system or to the reparcussions of his previous substance abuse.
In order for a major shift in him to happen, he will not to fall much much lower, i.e. it needs an intervention from the universe. P.S. Most people don't understand that he is NOT that guy on 2 1/2 men. Everything he says, every timed dialogue, every facial expression is written for him, directed by someone else. His fame has to do with the show being popular. He is not a funny person. His scriptwriters are the real heroes.

Kathyo - I agree with alot of what you say to ksis - I guess I have some empathy for the other side of this debacle - do correct me if I'm wrong - but it seems to me that Chuck Lorre liked Charlie in Spin City and wrote a script and hired Charlie to play the lead in a show that Chuck financed and produced to sell to Warner Bros. That show 2 1/2 men became very successful and consequently Charlie's agent negotiated a very lucrative salary for his continued performances.
Somewhere along the way the escalating problems Charlie was involved with - holding a knife to Brooke's throat at christmas - trashing the New York hotel room - videos of him partying with porn stars and his publicly boasting about pounding 7 gram rocks broke the "trust" Warner Bros. Chuck Lorre and CBS had in Charlie's ability to continue in the role.

As I am not privy to the inner workings of the "deals" his employers made with Charlie for rehab (he decided to do it at home) he refused the Warner private jet to rehab elsewhere - I've just become interested as a result of the bizarre rantings - the unexpected language -LOL...I admit I get a kick out of the Vanity Cards....I find humour in alot of those musings.

Does Charlie have a point? I don't know - As a business owner I look at it from the other side as well - It was Chuck's money and scripts that made Charlie's popularity and big salary possible - So I ask myself - Doesn't Charlie have some responsibility towards his employer for his public actions?

BTW I never paid attention to Chris Brown either until I saw him on Dancing With the Stars and thought he gave a wonderful performance - For me the 'celebrities' are only entertainment value - I like Fred Farkel's attitude - He went to the show - it was a bust - he bought a Tshirt and it was a memorable evening for him -

Whatever Charlie's point is now I go back to the premise that he needs some good writers to help produce a good show. He has fans so he will be fine if he delivers.

ksis - you've glossed over the past of Charlie's shooting Kelly Preston - (John Travolta's wife) - Let's face it he's been a "bad boy" since he was 15 and stole his Dad's credit card to get laid by a hooker - So he's been acting out most of his life - it's his life - so when his Dad could put him in rehab he did - At this point no one can do anything to or for him - as he was not caught by the police with drugs on him -

What effect the drugs have on him - I don't know - I'm not familiar with drugs - Is he shouting out because of hypocracy - I don't know - Do you know how he acts on set? Perhaps he's a real pain to work with - perhaps - he kept everyone standing around while he moved around furniture to lean on while still hung over or high - We do know his cast hasn't rushed to defend him though.

So I'll stop commenting - IMO his own actions blew a fabulous job - now let's see what he can create for himself as a career.

Ksis - The only comparison I made in reference to Charlie and Chris is the fact that they are both celebrities that have acted out in public and have not really suffered a financial consequence, however I think Chris and Charlie are both abusive to women.
Angel - Above I was attempting to look at this situation from Charlie's point of view, HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that I agree with his point of view. For the sake of his children, I think he should care more about how he is perceived. Perception is reality and in the public's perception he is either a drug crazed addict and about to die or he's having a post drug induced episode or he is mentally ill and we should all feel sorry for him or he is a no talent comedienne that can only read scripts. Why would any mother in their right mind let the perception I described above near their child and if he is as intelligent as I think he is, he should realize this and do what you said before but we both know that will never happen. He is a self entitled celebrity who cares more about his own ego than anything else. I think he loves his kids but he wants everything on his terms and expects everyone to accept him the way he is and he does not seem willing to give in at all and I think that is extremely selfish and arrogant and wrong when there are children involved. Just my opinion.

Sheen did not expect to get FIRED. Sheen was holding out for 3 million to come back.

He screwed himself out of 16 mil for the rest of this season and another 32 million for next season, that's 48 million Sheens lost because of his crap and arrogence. Dah, Stupid. 2 mil per episode for basically doing nothing.

His show tanked really, really big time, and his comment "I already have your money" not good at all.

C'mon people, you think for one minute WB and Lorre did not go over every word of his contract...and they still FIRED his butt.

WB and Lorre, are not shaking in their boots over Sheens lawsuite. They are laughing their butts off. His lawsuite to WB and Lorre mean nothing. They aren't the ones making a laughing stock out of themselves.

Hey Charlie - If you really do read TMZ - Your a loser! You call the public "little people"? You are a sorry piece of crap and a sad excuse for a human being. You had a career dude - it's gone. No, you won't be making any "million dollar" movies like you claimed and you won't be inking a $10 million dollar book deal. You're a risk that the suits won't take and you made it happen all by yourself. Even if you cleaned your act up, and I seriously doubt if you can, you have insulted far too many people in the industry. Hope you save your money well, because your "rainy day" is now!

If Charlie Sheen is "winning"...kind of bc he got all those idiots to pay for his dopey show about nothing. He's a neglectful dog killing, self-centered egomaniac. It's only a matter of time before he's put in the insane "warlock" asylum..ha

Damn, I wish I had been there, I would have tossed his salad and then everything would have been fine. I really want to toss Charlie's salad.

What are these vultures disappointed about? They went to the show to see a deteriorating star suffering a mental breakdown and what they saw was a deteriorating star suffering a mental breakdown. Charlie delivered. What they didn't realise is that the reality of it is UGLY, not funny. But I'm sure these vultures will still consider themselves to be the innocent, exploited ones.

@Angeleyes

I didn't gloss over. I didn't mention because from all the sources that I have gathered information from, what happened with Kelly was an accident. That's the end of story for me, as I wasn't there. I have to rely on what others say.
And how do I know that he was NOT a pain to work with and was liked and appreciated ALMOST by everyone? Because all of his cast, EXCEPT Jon Cryer, reached out to him and called him after he was fired.
And in 2009 Jon Cryer had tears in his eyes when he was thanking Charlie for being a wonderful co-star.
Plus the show has been a major success for 8 years. Kinda proves that he was doing his job very well.

@Kathyo
I have to disagree STRONGLY, but respectfully. Perception is NOT reality. Those two words don't go together. How the man is perceived on the screen, doesn't have to be the way he is real life. Only people who know him, can say what he is like and only about the opinion of those people he should care. His children will know him the way he is when he is around them, in the house. And that is a father they will care about. Not the one screwing with the journalists on TV.
Charlie acts half of the time that he is on screen. It takes a while to be able to distinguish between that and his real self, but it can be done, imo.

*******************

3 million raise was a joke. His words. And like the rest of the 20/20 interview, it was nothing but him playing smartass in front of Angela Canning.
Sheen lost, but also his cast and crew lost. And who is now fighting in court for them to get paid? He does. DUH.
Yes, they did go over every word, and that's why they ARE shaking in their boots, hoping for a peaceful arbitration, instead of public trial that Charlie and Marty Singer ask for.
NEXT.
