Duggar Family Delivers Relief to Tornado Disaster

5/24/2011 4:44 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The family from the TLC reality show "19 Kids & Counting" sprang into action just hours after that deadly tornado ripped through Missouri -- packing up supplies and driving through the night to join the rescue effort ... TMZ has learned.

Josh Duggar -- the eldest Duggar child -- tells TMZ the fam spent Sunday night and all day Monday delivering supplies and clearing massive piles of debris to search for survivors in Joplin, MO.

Josh says he and 5 siblings -- John, Jana, Jill, Jessa, Joseph and Dad, Jim Bob -- decided to load up a 3 car caravan late Sunday night when they heard about the disaster in Joplin ... just one hour from their home in Arkansas.

Four of the Duggars are volunteer firefighters ... and Josh says rescue officials immediately put the family's considerable manpower to work -- assigning them to search around the devastated town for any activity -- and hand out supplies at command posts.

Josh tells us the survivors he met were most interested in recovering memories ... saying, "People in Joplin aren't looking for stuff, they're looking for their lives."

Ryan Seacrest's GF -- Kissing Another Man

Ryan Seacrest's girlfriend Julianne Hough passionately locked lips with another man in Florida yesterday -- but good news for the "American Idol" host ... it all took place on the set of her new movie.

So far, no word from Seacrest -- but we're guessing ... that's gotta hurt.

It's a good thing that the Duggar's can lend many pairs of hands to helping other people. Lol.

Story on Duggars is a non story. There are a lot of people helping down there. I don't give a flip that Duggars are helping and can't understand why it rates a story.

Why did they have to drive through the night if they only live an hour away? Did they get lost or feel the need to concieve another kid along the way?

Great to see the Duggars there. They will help comfort survivors with Christian love and charity.

I'd have thought they'd be moving a little faster if they were looking for survivors. I'm sure the camera probably slowed them down.

Anything for publicity and I am sure that was all it was. They have not been in the new lately.
By the way Maire, you don't have to be a Christian to love and be charitable, it's called being a good human being.

So sick of people being mean to this family. They are a good and yes CHRISTIAN family. Practicing what they preach. They are raising respectful and helpful children. Unlike so many undisciplined I'm OK Your OK Time out kids who are in charge of their parents. Good job, this is a family to set family standards against... living for God living by the word of God. How's it working for the rest of the world that is not?

Yeah, it's nice what they're doing but it doesn't deserve to be "newsworthy". Who cares what they do? Cops, firemen, rescue teams and average citizens have been doing this non-stop for years without recognition but they aren't singled out. Do us a favor Dugars, have your kids, take care of them and stay out of the limelight. Give it to those who deserve and need it. Wanna really help? Give a donation to those who HAVE NOTHING anymore.

Hey Jennifer we don't all "live by Gods word" because we are not all christians.
So excuse me, nothing against your religion or beliefs but please don't automatically assume that we're all "christians" and that if we're not we're not good people. Don't "lump" me into a category if you don't mind. Thanks

I gave money to help the victims - I didn't go looking for a photo-op. That must have been a grueling all night trip to go an hour away from home.

Read the article closely. It does not say they drove all night.
It says the started late Sunday night putting together supplies
etc and then started helping also Sunday night.

Why do people attack others for doing a good thing? So the Duggars have a lot of kids ... they aren't having taxpayers foot the bill for their family. They are very conservative and believe in God ... if they were wildly liberal atheists they would be much less a target of cynicism and derision.

When did "Christian" become the adjective for the high moral ground. It isn't. You don't see Jewish, Muslim, Wiccan or any other religion that uses their religion as an adjective to show how fabulous you are.
People are people. Generalizing good Christian values is a pretty slippery slope.
As to the Duggars. Who cares that they are down there helping?
As noted, a lot of people are driving down there to help.
They just don't feel the need to make a photo op out of it.
Really says it all.
