Cheryl Cole's Accent

Too Thick for 'X-Factor'

5/25/2011 4:20 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Cheryl Cole was dropped from the judging panel on "X-Factor" largely because producers were  concerned her English accent would be too difficult for an American audience to understand ... sources close to the production tell TMZ. .

There were other issues too -- we're told Cheryl and fellow judge Paula Abdul had a "lack of chemistry" ... and Cheryl was more expendable.

Producers now want Cheryl to return to the UK version of the show -- but according to sources, Cheryl's royally pissed over how this situation was handled ... and may sever ties with "X-Factor" entirely.

Steve Jones will now be the only host on the show -- which debuts in September -- since Nicole Scherzinger will be filling Cheryl's seat on the judging panel.

Calls to Simon Cowell still haven't been returned.

I admit Cole has got on my nerves in the past but she is definitely much better than Nicole in more ways than one. She's better than Paula who likes to sleep with the contestants (lol). If she was dropped it was because some jealous female made sure Cheryl couldn't start her US music career by way of the Xfactor. Although it's true she's received most of her popularity from the Xfactor, she's still a very talented girl, who just need to get away from lip synching. She still has great songs. She puts on a great performance. And she sings with a backing track usually. Which is what everyone else does. Anyway bad decision Xfactor USA. Cheryl would bring popularity to the show because as much as a lot of people don't want to admit, that's her forte. People watch because she's on! She just has that quality.

forget Cheryl Cole and Paula. simon should have chosen Madonna. that would make a perfect factor judge. i would almost rather see an old stand up comedian great like Tom Green. Did anyone know he had a rap group like the beastie boys in the 90s? i don't know if Ive heard any of these songs.

Oh right and PAULA SUCKS! CHERYL IS MUCH BETTER THAN THAT HAS BEEN! Paula Abdul, the woman who started a scandal on AI for sleeping with one of her contestants!

I gotta wonder why anyone would pick 2 'D' list talents like Cole and Scherzinger in the first place. Neither has any talent. I'm surprised Simon didn't go after REAL talent to judge this show. I completely understand the choice of Paula. She has so much chemistry with Simon. She has no talent either but they make a great pair.

That's awful that anyone would ridicule accents. The harder to understand, the sexier. That show will fail now I was looking forward to seeing her coz she's so cute! That show makes ppl feel awful like American Idol...THE VOICE doesn't ridicule ppl or make them look like an ass

"Last time I checked, Simon Cowell also has a british accent and americans can understand him but not Cheryl? I smell a rat!"

Er, her accent is hardly British (plummy) - it's Geordie (from Newcastle) - most people here have a hard enough time understanding that accent. It's not classically British like James Bond or Simon Cowell.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Perhaps Cheryl can go back to being a chav who racially abuses toilet attendants now. Chav.

Cheryl's accent isn't a typical English accent. It's a Geordie accent, a Liverpudlian accent like The Beatles and yes, she is very difficult to understand. She was never going to make it in the US as she is a total unknown there. Simon was deluded to take her over there to star on X-Factor.

I'm tired of hearing any and all foreign accents flooding the tv screen. The only accents on american tv should be from Brooklyn, the Bronx and Deep South.

Too fast & too clipped. I use sub titles when available on British movies.

she is a talentless chav from Newcastle (commonly known as the anus of England). Her accent is difficult to understand even for us Brits. However, what is even harder to understand is how she has managed to attain such success with such a lack of any discernible talent. Surely the USA has plenty of homegrown talented people to choose from?

We have watched Cheryl on Britain's X Factor for the last 2 years and fell in love with her. Her personality and intelligence are far above Paula's any day of the week! As Americans we had no trouble whatsoever understanding Cheryl when she spoke. This is a huge disappointment and Simon just lost a viewer!

To me Nicole was better judge in xfactor UK; I think it s a good decision
Sheryl is a player and her judging abilities are, to me, not good. Simon fancies her too much, because she is pretty. Simon axed Danni from Xfactor UK because she was a truly a good judge, Danni was what Sheryl was not Sheryl was aware of pleasing Simon than judging, because she wanted to spread her wings in USA, I m happy for that. Sheryl wanted a platform in USA to launch her career in USA, and she did every thing Simon wanted IN xfactor UK for that. She does n t deserve the place. Her accent is very difficult to understand even in England.

Our accent, whether it be of our country of origin or purely regional as in the case of Cheryl, is what makes us all unique.
To say that her accent is a reason to get rid of her is ridiculous. When I listen to some of the American rap artists talkin on TV it's like they come from another planet. I'm sure that's not the way they were taught to speak at school, it's purely an affectation they see as "cool".
