Roger Ebert BLASTS Ryan Dunn for Drunk Driving

6/20/2011 11:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Dunn hasn't even been dead for a day yet -- and film critic Roger Ebert is already ripping the late "Jackass" star for boozing before getting behind the wheel  ... tweeting, "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive."

Ryan Dunn Drunk
TMZ broke the story ... Dunn's drinking buddy claims Ryan had at least 3 beers and 3 shots before hitting the road in his Porsche.

Obviously, Ebert has a point -- but we gotta ask ...

If he had been alone in the car, then this would be too soon. Instead, he had a passenger and was out drinking with friends before the crash. You don't have to be legally drunk to have alcohol affect your ability to drive. Even a single drink has been shown to decrease your reaction time. It's sad that he took someone out with him when he made the very jackass-ish decision to drink and then drive.

Ebert's right. Enabler's let enabler's drink and drive. True friendship is a beautiful caring thing.Where people look out for what's best for one another.

Someone just lost their son...it hasn't been said whether or not alcohol was a factor...too soon? yeah your kinda jumping the gun there...wouldn't you feel like a jacka** if he wasn't drunk? This is sad anyway you look at it...a little respect people.

Too soon? Absolutely not!! Its too late! If in fact he was drunk at the time of the accident, he should burn in hell. He took an innocent life and destroyed a nice car and public property. Hope he had good insurance, because his family is gonna get sued big by the other persons family. We all know that drinking and driving is bad, yet people continue to do it. Maybe we need to bring back prohibition in the US to keep idiots from hurting themselves and others.

Wow..At least have some f***en respect. The man just passed for gods sake!

Curious Curious

Is Ebert ripping Ryan or is he ripping the folks that let Ryan drive after drinking? Seems to me he's ripping the friends of the Jackass star for letting him drive after drinking. Open to interpretation?

That may be the case, But come on the poor guy has not even been dead a day, and the fact that we don't even know his blood level yet, what a ass have a heart

He is right!! And it's not too soon....more people need to hear this before they end up dead or killing an innocent person!!!! There is no excuse, ever for this!!!!!

Ebert is being his usually witty self - his comment makes him sound like a jackass - that's the point - it's an homage to Ryan Dunn. Get it?

Roger is correct it doesn't matter what the BAC is, he was driving impaired and that is the end of the questions! Do not back down, Roger, stand up for what you believe that is what is wrong with us now we are so worried about being PC we have forgotten how to be honest.

I can't believe everyone talking about respect and whining about the completely truthful comments Roger Ebert made.

Respect, really?
Did Ryan Dunn respect himself when he decided to drink and drive? Did he respect his family, his friends, his passenger? Did he respect the other people on the road he might have killed had their cars passed him at just the wrong moment.

He decided to drink and drive. It was his choice to put his and other people's lives in danger. Yes, his family and friends are sad and deserve sympathy, but let's not be afraid of the truth. The truth is drinking and driving KILLS.

To all the people who are bashing Dunn and calling him a drunk, all you know is he consumed alcohol that night. For all you know he was responsible and sobered up. Just cuz the guy did Jack*ss movies and stupid stunts doesn't mean he was that careless. Shame on you and if it was you, I bet you wouldn't want people bashing you with zero evidence. My suggestion is to remove your head from your anus before you comment. it helps.

If he was drunk then yes it was wrong of him to drive but have a little respect there are alot of people out there who loved him and are truly hurt but this. Maybe some of you people should think if you were in that situation would you want someone saying **** like that about your friends or family. I think that ******* had no right to post anything like that about him.

It's very sad that these two guys died. But their deaths could have been prevented. It's never safe to drink and drive. I feel really bad for the families of the deceased.

Ebert is right. Even Forest Gump knows that; "Stupid is as stupid does." Getting all liquored up and launching your car into the trees with a friend riding shotgun is really a bad idea.

This is a time of sadness, everyone is hurt, and some of the comments made are dumb.We were not there so you is to know what happened he may have just lost control of the car, drinking may have had nothing to do with it,and to blame drinking could be bull**** i know plenty of people you yake presribed pain meds and drive nobody says that wrong R.I.P Ryan

Ebert's right! Witnesses saw both men drinking. Ryan was an adult, and obviously knew better, but did not take heed.

He was driving a 4 wheeled crotch rocket, and impaired too.

He's way too old to feel invincible, the alcohol reduced his inhibitions. You play...you pay!

Let's be thankful no other drivers or pedestrians were hurt or killed. This is sad for all, but he did Jackass stunts risking his life for a living, so this was just another stunt he thought he would be okay to do.

I do have sympathy for him and the family of him and his friend who died also! Friends are also jerks to let their friend drive drunk!! But we are all like that we let our friends drive drunk and laugh about it the next day only this time there is no next day!

RIP

You people need to think about what a you are saying! One guy is saying that Ryan took a innocent life.....what...how do you call the guy sitting there getting drunk with Ryan and then letting him drive knowing he is drunk, hell he was drunk too.. that guy was not innocent by any means. They both should have taken a cab..to where ever they was going and this wouldn't have happened. But you people get on here and blast the man like you never drank and drove. I am by no means saying that it is right but let the man get cold before you goe blast him, and by all means make sure you have never done it. As far as MR Ebert well he is just a Liberal.

Ebert. Help the people understand that kids died as a result of this irresponsible movie. Just google "kid dies attempting jackass stunt." World better off without him. Too bad he had to kill his friend in the process, but he has caused lots of deaths.
