Roger Ebert BLASTS Ryan Dunn for Drunk Driving

6/20/2011 11:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Dunn hasn't even been dead for a day yet -- and film critic Roger Ebert is already ripping the late "Jackass" star for boozing before getting behind the wheel  ... tweeting, "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive."

Ryan Dunn Drunk
TMZ broke the story ... Dunn's drinking buddy claims Ryan had at least 3 beers and 3 shots before hitting the road in his Porsche.

Obviously, Ebert has a point -- but we gotta ask ...

If he had been alone in the car, then this would be too soon. Instead, he had a passenger and was out drinking with friends before the crash. You don't have to be legally drunk to have alcohol affect your ability to drive. Even a single drink has been shown to decrease your reaction time. It's sad that he took someone out with him when he made the very jackass-ish decision to drink and then drive.

Ebert's right. Enabler's let enabler's drink and drive. True friendship is a beautiful caring thing.Where people look out for what's best for one another.

Someone just lost their son...it hasn't been said whether or not alcohol was a factor...too soon? yeah your kinda jumping the gun there...wouldn't you feel like a jacka** if he wasn't drunk? This is sad anyway you look at it...a little respect people.

Too soon? Absolutely not!! Its too late! If in fact he was drunk at the time of the accident, he should burn in hell. He took an innocent life and destroyed a nice car and public property. Hope he had good insurance, because his family is gonna get sued big by the other persons family. We all know that drinking and driving is bad, yet people continue to do it. Maybe we need to bring back prohibition in the US to keep idiots from hurting themselves and others.

Wow..At least have some f***en respect. The man just passed for gods sake!

Curious Curious

Is Ebert ripping Ryan or is he ripping the folks that let Ryan drive after drinking? Seems to me he's ripping the friends of the Jackass star for letting him drive after drinking. Open to interpretation?

That may be the case, But come on the poor guy has not even been dead a day, and the fact that we don't even know his blood level yet, what a ass have a heart

He is right!! And it's not too soon....more people need to hear this before they end up dead or killing an innocent person!!!! There is no excuse, ever for this!!!!!

Ebert is being his usually witty self - his comment makes him sound like a jackass - that's the point - it's an homage to Ryan Dunn. Get it?

ITS VERY SAD WHAT HAS HAPPENED.... THESE GUYS HAVE RISKED THEIR LIVES PERFORMING STUNTS THAT MAKE MILIONS OF PEOPLE LAUGH. ITS VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS HORRIBLE TRAGITY HAPPENED, AND IF AND IF IS THE KEY WORD UNTIL IT IS DETERMINED THAT ALCOHOL PLAYED A ROLE IN THIS CRASH JUST LET IT BE A LESSON LEARNED, AND DO NOT CONDEMN NOR BEAT UP A PERSON WHO HAS JUST PASSED AWAY... MAY HE REST IN PEACE

I think Ebert is making a statement about drinking and driving being wrong for everyone and he's using the jackass star as his muse. The point is the same whether its Dunn or the kid next door whose name no one will remember. And about the family of the passenger suing Dunn's family - we all know that's coming because money brings back the dead. If they do that - I'll have less respect for them. If it was an average person the other family wouldn't try to sue bc the average family has nothing. But because Dunn had money everyone thinks its ok to sue his remaining family. What jackasses themselves.

Roger Ebert, who are you to think that you have any place to say anything about a man who unfortunately lost his life. I would love to see what would happen to you, after what you said about Ryan Dunn, go to his funeral where his family, friends are going through hell, mourning him, and see how your unprovoked comments go over. You should be ashamed of yourself, using your popularity to voice such ass-headed comments!!!

at this point nobody should talk ****. it's done let it be. and just because ryan was drinking doesn't mean he was drunk. It really could have been from something that no one will never know. just leave it be and let the family and friends grieve without all the **** talk,

Friends DON'T let Jackass friends drive drunk!!! how many times do people have to kill other people(his passenger) before we stop excusing bad behavior just because he's a popular icon!!!

Seriously!!! take the keys away! get a cab. I feel sorry for his family and the family of the man he killed. I do not feel sorry for him. He acted very irresponsibly.

Don't need his BA to come back. Don't care if he wasn't "legally" drunk. Anyone who downs 3 beers & three shots in an hour is impaired. But the mentality of a lot of men is I don't want to seem like a "*****" if I say something. So I'll just cross my fingers & hope for the best or better still not give it another thought after your GOOD friend walks out the door with keys in hand.

Wow Mike L you seem like the biggest Jack*** on here, have any feelings? Apparently not since, as you view Ryan (not thinking before he drives) you did not think before you posted something as ignorant as that. Wether or not it was the "idiot" thing to do i don't think you have any right to view it being as you weren't there, you are not related to nor friends with the star. Two people are dead and all you can do is point fingers and bad mouth someone who clearly has more class than you for posting something like that. Maybe YOU need to SHUT UP, cuz i'm pretty sure you've done it as well or will do it sometime in your life, then we'll see who will "burn in hell" asswhole.

Why are all these BOYS so angry about what Roger Ebert said?

Hitting a little too close to home? Yes.

This guy (can't think of his name) was reckless and had absolutely no respect for his life or obviously his passengers.

I feel bad for the passenger, but the driver had a dead wish. Should have be alone in the car and not taken the other guy to HEAVEN with him. Not fair.

If Roger Ebert saves a few lives - that's a good thing!

Caner mouth? Did you mean CANCER mouth? Low blow. Spoken like a true alcoholic.
