Dodger Beating Victim's Family: TMZ Is Being Unfair

6/28/2011 11:17 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The family of Bryan Stow -- the man who was brutally beaten outside Dodger Stadium -- is upset at TMZ's stories over the last day, claiming a remark about a hot dog in no way justified the beating.

Stow's family is upset that we posted the video, showing Stow in a verbal altercation with a Dodger fan.  The Dodger fan, Juan Banda, claims Stow had loudly said, "I rather eat my own feces than a Dodger dog."

A rep for the family tells TMZ, "There has been enough hurt and pain for Bryan, his family, friends and especially his two young children."  The rep believes we suggested Bryan's attack may have been warranted.

The rep says, "Banter is expected at any sporting event.  Violence should not be.  Bryan is not a violent person.  That shows as he remains seated, hands up as someone is in his face yelling.  Over what? Comments about a hot dog?!!"

So... the reason why he got himself beat up isn't as important as the beat down itself then? Idiotic logic - 'not saying he got what he deserved, but, if he shut his mouth up, nothing would have probably happen to him...

Jay Jay

You dont kick someone brains in over a hot dog comment.

Maverick Maverick

It's quite possible that Bryan Stow was shooting his mouth off. And pissed someone off. No matter what, his beating was completely unjustified. But it's possible that Stow is not quite the angel everyone thinks he is. And perhaps his family should realize that.

Obviously the violence was not warranted and the perpetrators are scum that need to be behind bars. That being said... it is generally a bad idea to piss people off for no reason. If I (as a white person) were to go into a minority neighborhood and started shouting racial epithets I wouldn't deserve to be beaten into a coma, but I'd be stupid to not think that it could happen.

Dan Dan

So I guess the family did not want the general public to see that Bryan was not the angelic person they have portrayed him to be.

Well if it matters, personally I would rather eat feces than a dodger dog too. Dodger fans are insane. I was at an Angels vs Dodger game and I can't even tell you how many fights were started in the parking lot by Dodger fans. L.A. shouldnt be allowed any sports teams, they don't know how to play nice. i.e- Lakers, Dodger, Raiders..

All sides of the story should be reported no matter who it upsets. TMZ is doing a diligent job in reporting.

Jerk Bryan Stow provoked the beat down, too bad!
Dodger dogs taste much better than a hospital IV. I wonder if Bryan Stow tastes like a vegetable? XD

bottom line is that both parties in this incident did not respect their social contract:

you should not verbally abuse or provoke people around you
you should not physically abuse people around you

one can lead to the other, so don't do either.

This guy running his mouth did not justify a beating...HOWEVER it may very well have encited it. You don'tdrive through Compton yelling " Heil Hitler", and you probably shouldn't go into a ball park and talk crap at a home game. If you do, you are sending an invitation for trouble. Now, we don't know exactly what happened because at this point...it's allegations, BUT if there is some truth to it, then it looks like it was a mutual fight and someone lost.

If this guy didnt say anything but his team name and things along those lines he wouldnt be in a coma but he wanted to play like a big guy saying big guy things maybe he should be ready for a REAL big guy outcome. His boys was there could have watched his back but his boys didnt even want to watch his back tells you what kind of guy he was. im not saying him in a coma is right by any means but let this be a lesson to people out there watch what you say and who you say it to. my comment is meant no disrespect to the family and friends of this guy

Stow gets beaten into a coma for insulting slaughterhouse potpourri AKA 'hot dogs'. I wonder what he thinks of chalupas. That's gold, Jerry, GOLD!! Banda, Banya, who gives a F.

TMZ why would you bring this up??? Do you really think a comment about a hot dog is in any way justification for what was done to this man??? If that is even true...

The guy can't defend himself or tell his side of the story because HE IS IN A COMA!!! Yet you think it's fair to share the claims of the person in his face in the photo. Did you really think that Juan Banda was going to say anything that would implicate himself in the actions captured on camera?

Lousy and crappy TMZ!

I'd be upset with TMZ too if they mocked a family member of mine that was beaten nearly to death. It's too bad that you losers at TMZ have nothing better to report on. The cool job you think you have is really not cool and you people are such a joke that it's pathetic. You're such low lives. Total trash.

its just a game, beating a man because he is for another team is wrong. The ones that did it need be in JAIL.

TMZ is only doing their duty of reporting a popular newstory. And a dam good one if i might add if they were to get video on stow. Tmz is not saying at all that the guy deserved a coma, but wants to shine the light on the other side of the story. Not all hardcore dodger fans put people in comas, and before this story came out, stows family was sure sitting pretty letting everybody feel like that...thanks tmz :)

The former Mrs. Hulk Hogan needs to go back and cry to her 20 year old boy-toy. Failing to call the police because she was afraid the Hulkster would lose his job and main source of income. You didn't want to call the police because you didn't want to lose your meal ticket! What a joke!!
