Casey Anthony's Lawyer: We TOASTED Because ...

7/8/2011 6:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Casey Anthony's defense lawyer tells TMZ ... his team popped bubbly and raised their glasses after the not-guilty verdict because "We have a long-standing tradition; we toast to the Constitution."

TMZ spoke with Cheney Mason -- the guy with the beard -- who tells us his team decided to hit the Terrace 360 restaurant across the street from the courthouse Tuesday because, "We were celebrating saving Casey Anthony's life."

Mason also defended his use of his now infamous middle finger salute that day -- telling us it was directed at a "guy from a radio station who has been stalking my team for months."

Cheney says, "He was yelling at the ladies on my team, 'Are you on your period?' and he was also calling them 'baby killers.'"

"This guy was outside and pounding on the glass and I flipped the son-of-a-bitch off, and I'll do it again!"

Cheney states --  "It was an expression of my first amendment right."

@Matt: You need to take a class on writing english because it is clearly not your first language. That said, the jury needs to get a life. They did not distinguish between "a reason to doubt" and "reasonable doubt". This jury was just plain unsophisticated and somewhat uneducated. And as for Cheney Mason why would we expect anything more from a s***bag defense atty. That single middle finger he so proudly presented was his IQ. God bless Caylee Anthony!

So--they were toasting because they saved the life of, and set free (to do who knows how much damage) a child killer?

It's interesting that you thought Casey was guilty until you joined the defense team then you changed your tune. What a phony, classless POS you are. I hope the Florida bar has seen this pic and are very proud of you. Celebrating the constitution... you were celebrating making money off that dead childs life.

For all the people celebrating Casey Anthony getting off the murder I would like to know do you actually think Caylee drowned in the pool? Even though Casey herself scoffed at the thought and it makes no sense as to why such a horrible accident would have to be covered up?

If you dont think the pool story is true then how do you think Caylee died? Also why do you think the defense couldnt say someone else killed her is it because they knew all evidense pointed to their client?

There is nothing wrong with the jury system. But her are things wrong and/or outdated with the implementation of same. First, members of the jury should have to pass a literacy test. I served in a civil trail wherein two jury members could not read. They were incapable of discerning the judges "instructions". Second, do away with the sequestering of same. That process in and of itself introduces unneeded pressure and/or personal bias into the process. Third change "unreasonable doubt" to "unreasonable expectations" . Unreasonable doubt causes the jury to distort information input from the trial into self-legaliese format (something they would never do outside the trial). Why do we have a judge and jury? Why not a computing system that has instant access to database via an artificial intelligence system? (A technical example might be something akin to the IBM Chess playing process. Obviously, a jury system is highly preferable, but with sorely needed changes. Ruling on the bickering between attorneys is different dependent of the judge. Judge "A" would rule differently than Judge "B", and Jury "A" would decide differently than Jury "B". In other words, decisions on guilt or innocence are made from the effectiveness of the communication and interpretative skills of the individuals. I think jury's are given unreasonable demands.

thats ashamed how cheney used his middle finger and when the young boy in the court room used his he got 6 days in the county jail. thats how screwed up the system is. I think cheney should of served 6 days in the county jail. he seems like a jerk! cheney said casey could stay at his house but not for very long, Hello people what does that tell you? he must know how casey is!He acts like he's not to fond of casey anthoney.
I think casey will get pregnant real soon she will go back to her wild ways. it look like she was flirting with the guys around her in the court room. Thats ashamed how casey, george, cindy and their son and jurors, lawyers (ect) are profiting from an innocent little girl that done nothing wrong. I think God is mad, thats probably the reason why the tree next to the place where they found baby caleys body, got struck by lighting!! The anthoney family will live a misserable life, I think they all know what happened to little caley. I think one day, one of the anthoney family members will break their silence. the jurors are all blaming the prosecutors because they don't know how to answer the question why they all said not guilty. the only blame their is are the JURORS their the ones that decided on the plea and they said NOT GUILTY! THEIR THE ONES THAT PUT THEIR SIGNATURE ON THE PAPER. The prosecutors showed evidence the jurors had their mind on money! The only person I feel sorry for is Caley she's the only innocent one not Casy!! jurors done it wrong!!

Vile creature - you will receive street justice in time and may it be as terrifying as what you did to your child. As for you attorneys celebrating the Constitution - you should be celebrating the ineptitude of the prosecutors and the stupidity of the jurors.

i want to to say that. everone need to get a life. run for office in your state and change the laws. and this would not happen. if she did it or not it the justice system. blame her, blame the system, but people have been getting the shaft from the system for ever if your not white. and you blame OJ maybe you'll see them on a golf course looking for the real killers. but there is nothing anybody can do about it. so go home and love you family! and not make the mistakes of others. who are stupid. she going to get paid and one day be sitting in hell with all of us who judged her. let god and eternal life take care of the trash. love you all and tell your kids you love them. or donate to a children cause if you don't have one.

Wow I wasn't planning on commenting but this is probably the BEST response to this whole sordid mess that I have heard from anyone. Really wise and powerful words Matt. You know what...thank you. It is a waste of negative energy to continue to rant angrily against this woman. At some point or another, we will all be judged by the master judge GOD

I call BS on the whole thing. The jury let a murderess go, which is happening time and again, because of the "CSI Effect". Everyone knows this broad did it, she lied and fed out misinformation. The jury wanted cut and dry answers when cut and dried answers are not always available. I just wish one person had had the balls to stand up and say no, hung jury.
