AMY WINEHOUSE

IN THE PROCESS OF ADOPTING

A GIRL BEFORE DEATH

7/31/2011 7:16 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Amy Winehouse Adoption
Amy Winehouse was preparing to adopt a 10-year-old girl from the island of St. Lucia, the girl and her grandmother told a British paper today.

The girl -- Dannika Augustine (seen above with Amy) -- says she met the singer during one of Amy's visits to the island over the past few years. She says she was living in poverty with her single mom when Amy took an interest in her.

Dannika tells The Sunday Mirror, "Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me ... She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me."

Dannika's grandmother Marjorie says she spoke to Amy a few weeks ago and that Amy planned to return to St. Lucia next month. She told the paper, "Amy wanted to have a child so bad. If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St Lucia completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her."

Both of Dannika's parents had signed off on the adoption.

This kid's parents signed her life away to someone like Amy? Very sad.

Further proving that if you have enough money you can get anything you want.

Most likely would have been the Madonna Method of Mothering. Adopt a brat, get the headlines then shove them off on a nanny, never to be seen again...

As if this is true. Amy may have told her she wanted to adopt her, but adoption is not that simple. My husband and I are in the process of adopting from Ethiopia. We have been at it for 4 years now, and it is a very complicated process involving criminal checks, medicals and visits from social workers to see if we are 'fit' parents. There is NO way Amy Winehouse, given her very public addiction battles, would ever have been given the clearance by the British government to be a parent. She could not even look after herself. I have a funny feeling this family is now going to try and produce some kind of do***ent claiming Amy promised to look after the girl, so they want some of her estate. Such a shame. Maybe she did make them promises, but there's no way the British side would have ever made it legal.

I'm sure it's the worst thing that ever happened to Amy, too!

No way this is true. How could any agency possibly give her a child of any age given her history?

Sick parenting.. signing off the girl so they can suck on the Western titty. The parents are alive, there is no food shortage in St. Lucia - in fact it is paradise on earth - but Amy wants a kid and they want to share her wealt. Win-win.... disgusting.

I still think Amy's money should be given to this child than any of Amy's relatives. They have enough money. They're not living in poverty. Screw them.

How would anyone have approved her for adoption with all the drug use?

Sociopaths are Sad

These comments fail to scratch the surface.

Amy was a wealthy and very vulnerable person. If she was indeed looking to "adopt", it was so she could focus her attention on something other than drugs. The key word about "drug addict" is the word "addict" because they are vulnerable to ADDICTION, period. So Amy may have wanted to trade her love of drugs to a love of being a parent. (Other addicts turn to religion, etc..,anything to take their mind off the drugs.) It is SO SAD.

I had read previously that Amy wanted to give birth to her own child and was in the process of getting her body "baby ready". But I guess that fell through. What a huge addict this poor woman must have been.

And, of course, when you have a WEALTHY ANYONE who is VULNERABLE, you will have these poor pathetic people like this St. Lucia girl and her "parents" who quickly sign off on the adoption because having a daughter grow up with you for 10 YEARS can quickly be forgotten as long as the new adoptive "mum" is rich, right? Gross.

These people are vultures who were obviously taking advantage of Amy's vulnerable state. What would have happened had the adoption gone through....is those true parents and grandmother and uncle and aunts and whomever would have NEVER been out of their 10-year old mealticket's life. The 10-year old gold digger would have become Amy's "daughter" and then forced Amy to help her WHOLE EXTENDED family to immigrate and then forced Amy to financially take care of her WHOLE EXTENDED family until Amy was bled dry. And then Amy would be back on the drugs. That's human nature and I have seen it happen ALL THE TIME with people from Russia and China who want to DESPERATELY escape their poverty.

It even happens to people who aren't that poor but want a better (read richer) life. E.g. Britney and KFed. KFed was never really interested in Britney....and was willing to give up his family to get with her just so he could secure his future.

And of course Britney thought nothing of breaking up a family (she's a celeb and she's "special" right?) And Amy thought she could take away a 10-year old girl from her family and be her new "mum"? How messed up. These celebs are so entitled and no one says NO to them. So they constantly get used and abused. The whole situation is sad. But I'll save my pity for those who get screwed over by society who really have no choice in life. All these people had choices.

Before adopting a child in the UK, or a child adopted overseas is legally recognised in the UK, a number of checks are carried out by the authorities (DSS). There is no way that Amy Winehouse would be approved as a fit parent.
