Did It Suck?

1/22/2012 1:08 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

"American Idol" judge Steven Tyler is finding himself on the other end of the criticism this afternoon ... he's being mercilessly attacked for his rendition of the National Anthem today.

Tyler, in a glittery New England Patriots scarf, sung "The Star Spangled Banner" before today's Raven/Patriots AFC Championship game.

Popular sports site Bleacher Report posted the video under the headline, "Watch Steven Tyler Butcher the National Anthem." Jason Whitlock, columnist for FOXsports.com, tweeted, "Steven Tyler far more obscene than Janet Jackson's t*tty."

To us, he sounded exactly like you'd expect Steven Tyler to. But we ask you ...

He did great. Do any of you losers know what he does for a living? He is a singer in a loud crazy very famous rock band. Buy one of their records and then try to tell me he didn't sound exactly the way he....sounds. If you can't appreciate rock and roll, your life is worthless, I'm sorry to inform you.

The bottom line is that he must have sucked or they wouldn't be asking our opinions in the first place

As a musician, I can state that the "National Anthem" is truly one of the MOST difficult songs that exist!
Thusly, any singer that undertakes this should have their head examined!

Tyler should have selected a better (lower) key as even with his chops, he was straining at the conclusion...somewhat lackluster, but sincerely presented, I'd give him a 5 or 6 for his performance today! Not great, not sucking either...just okay!

Steven did great he hit all the notes with his rocker voice and timed it perfect for the fly over which was one of his jobs. God bless the USA and the service men and woman who are fighting the WAR IN AFTGANISTAN!!!

Tyler will be 64 this year. He is an icon. Let's hear you sing when you are 64! In case you have not noticed, he has always had a scratchy singing voice, but he can hit some amazing high notes!

Knowing the lyrics is NOT an asset, IT'S EXPECTED!!
That's what singers do!
They REMEMBER the words!
DUH, just because a few a$$holes blow the lyrics,
doesn't make NOT forgetting them a BIG deal!

Steven nailed it, for his style.
He actually got all the words right. Yay! [Isn't it nice that a sixty-two hard r&r singer did that!] (When do you think he was taught that?--try grammar school)
Want to talk about the youngsters who don't know or remember the words to the Star Spangled Banner?

How many famous people have mortified themselves in public, because they can't remember the words.

That's a great topic

There's a problem here

I've heard worse. He could have done without that idiotic yell. I'm a Star Spangled Banner purist. It's THE Star Spangled Banner, not YOUR Star Spangled banner. We don't need to hear a ghetto yodel with every other freaking note you sing. Sing the song the way it was meant to be sung. With respect, not with your high stylin'

that's classic steve tyler.. nothing wrong with it!

Tyler was a great singer in his younger days. He still is a good one with a band backing him up. But as an acapella, he sucked....big time!!

Its not the best but it's still better than Rosanne Barr's rendition.
