Unless he's the next Hakeem Olajuwon or is coached by him, I'd give him less than 50% odds of being successful. People thought Yao Ming would be a phenomenon and we see how that went. TMZ doesn't know squat about sports.

I don't think he's adopted. He just has American guardians for the time being. He was scouted in Senegal by a college coach who is a Senegalese native. Several Senegalese kids were enrolled in a very small prep school in California that often has foreign students because they offer F-1 visas. By small I mean the basketball team must be about 20% of the entire student body... He will be eligible to play college basketball in a couple of years.
The real lucky break for him was that someone on the school staff suspected he had giantism syndrome and got an MRI run on him, revealing a pituitary tumor explaining the uncontrolled growth. It would have eventually blinded him. Donations paid for the surgeries to remove the tumor and that's when a local couple assumed guardianship. I think it had more to do with ensuring his visa status, considering the situation, than dreams of NBA riches for the guardians. He'll need medical monitoring at the very least.
