Lamar Odom

DROPPED from the Mavericks

3/2/2012 12:11 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

0302_lamar_BN_01
Lamar Odom has been dropped from the Dallas Mavericks roster and sent down to the NBA Developmental League... in the midst of his worst season as an NBA player.

The Mavs have assigned Odom to play for the Texas Legends ... which means he's officially off the Mavericks roster ... but will still receive his $8.9 million annual salary.

According to ESPN, Odom was dropped to the D-League to "get his legs back under him."

Odom had missed a few games to deal with family issues back in L.A. Odom's father said the NBA star took care of him during a recent stomach illness.

Odom has struggled immensely ever since he was traded away from the Lakers at the beginning of the season ... and turned in career low stats with the Mavs.

It's for one game, it's the equivalency of a baseball player playing a couple of games in AAA before he gets called back up. Stick to your usual tabloid stuff and leave the sports to the people who know what shape a basketball is.

You guys need a better sports reporter. He wasn't DROPPED. He's still on the team, just being sent to the DLeague to get some time to get his playing legs back. The NBA now allows teams to send veteran players (WITH THEIR PERMISSION) to the DLeague for rehab or other reasons.

Also, even if he's sent to the DLeague, He's still a Mav, they OWN his rights so he wasn't dropped from anything. And the plan is for him to rejoin the team after a game.

GET A NEW SPORTS REPORTER. HIRE ME IF YOU WANT.

This is very poor reporting TMZ.

The new CBA states that a veteran player cannot go to D league without their consent. So, Lamar Odom agreed. This is temporary and for a few practices and one game. THEN HE RETURNS TO THE MAVS.

He has NOT been droppped to D League. NBA union members would be all over this if he were.

This is to get him back in shape since he's been out.

You're normally so good, TMZ. Really surprised at the sloppy reporting here.

Also, he will stay on the Mavericks roster but be listed as DNP.

Shows that Lamar was never that good out of the Lakers system. Just another player who was overrated and got a overrated pig of a wife.

Ok if he is temporarily dropped down to get back in shape, maybe it is also like a warning because he keeps missing games for silly reasons. Missing a game to go sit with his father because of his tummy ache doesn't make any sense. He is a grown man, he can handle his own discomforts.

I think it's pretty stupid to be on a reality TV show and have that major distraction while trying to concentrate on playing a competetive game! I think these teams need to put that in their contract to protect their interests. 8.9 mil is no joke.
