'Hunger Games' Star

U.S. Should LOWER

Boozing Age to 18

EXCLUSIVE

If 18-year-olds can fire a shot in war ... they should be able to take a shot in a bar ... so says "Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson.

Hutcherson was leaving STK last night when we asked a question inspired by his 19-year-old co-star Alexander Ludwig ... who triggered an investigation when he left a 21+ bar in Hollywood this week.

Hutcherson tells us the drinking age in America simply doesn't make sense -- saying, "I think the age to go to war is 18 ... so I think the drinking age should be 18 as well."

Hutcherson raises a good point ... so we gotta ask ...

Alcohol is put on a pedestal. In my Canadian province, it's 19 and that's pretty high as well.
When I went to Europe in high school, there basically WASN'T a drinking age. Kids had wine with meals growing up. By the time they turn 21, it's no longer a forbidden fruit.

Has it not clicked that keeping alcohol away from young adults makes them want it more, and makes them go potentially ape**** once they get their hands on it?

He's right too. I grew up in a country where the drinking age is 18, but now live in California. When I first arrived in CA it stunned me to see the amount of people between the ages of 18-21 who have issues with illegal narcotics and prescription drugs. We never had those problems at home, as most get out of the party phase by the time they've reached 20-21 and then go on to make something of themselves.

Lowering the drinking age was tried in the 1970s but did not last. The drinking age was lowered in about 30 states in the early 70s due to the draft at 18 years old, VietNam War & voting age being lowered to 18. But due to the increase in alcohol related accidents & deaths, The National Min Drinking Age Act was passed in the house & senate in 1984. States that didn't comply lost a percentage of federal funding.

There are certain biological connections still being connected in your brain at 18. Alcohol impares those developements. It's simple biology folks. And who cares what Europe does?

Sure, drink at 18 EXCEPT, like 18 year old in the military, you have to go to a training boot camp and remain in the care of a CO! I recommend raising the drinking age to 25. My life would have turned out WAY better. May bad choices in my past, and i am the success story!

There's no way it should be any younger than 21, do you know how many more drunk driving accidents and issues there would be?

lower the age of drinking? how about outlaw it altogether, instead? the idiots who are drinking today are already out of control. how many people drive their cars drunk, get duis or worse, kill others, before they wise up? when you jacka$$es drink, you get into your cars, you get into fights, you mouth off to police, you engage in promiscuous sex, etc. i dont even have time to name all of the ridiculous sh!t that comes of drinking. f* lowering the age. its time to protect our children, and ourselves. outlaw it. disagree with me? give yourself 10 years. once you grow the f* up, you'll realize how stupid drinking really is.

Just so you know, in Belgium, spirits can't be sold to minors under 18 when beer and wine can be sold to 16 years olds.

Most kids at the age of 18 aren't even fully cooked. To ply them with alcohol and put them behind the wheel of a car is rediculous. I don't care if someone drinks and kills themselves in a car wreck, but the problem is that an innocent person is usually the victim. Then what happens? The jail cells are filled with young, dumb, drunken kids who have now ruined their lives, if they make it out of the crash alive. Then you have to deal with insurance companies and the law. This is a life long problem that these kids aren't ready for. 18 is a bad idea to have a drinking age. It can only lead to problems. That being said, I was drinking and smoking pot at the age of 18, but lucky for me, I never got into any horrible situations. I don't drink anymore, and I don't put down anyone who does, I just feel like 18 is not a very good idea.
