Injured Extra Gets

$18 Million Settlement

breaking news

The 26-year-old movie extra who was critically injured during a stunt for "Transformers 3" will receive an $18.5 million settlement from producers.

Gabriela Cedillo had sued Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Studios after she suffered a serious head injury during a stunt-gone-wrong in Indiana on Sept. 1, 2010.

Cedillo was driving her own car in the background of an action sequence ... when something went terribly wrong.

According to people on the set, a stunt car was being pulled by another car ... when the cable between the two vehicles snapped and whipped around ... slicing through Cedillo's windshield and striking her in the head.

Cedillo was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she underwent emergency surgery ... but the damage to her brain is permanent.

According to Cedillo's lawsuit, obtained by, Paramount and DreamWorks originally promised to cover medical costs ... which soared past the $350k mark ... only to do "everything they could to avoid payment."

But it seems the studios have stepped up with the cash -- and now a judge has signed off on the settlement.

Following the crash, the incident was investigated by Indiana safety officials ... who determined the studios did not violate any of their operational standards.

4:35 PM PT -- A rep for Paramount tells TMZ, "We are pleased that the Cedillo family has agreed to move forward with the settlement.  This was a tragic accident and our thoughts and prayers remain with Gabriela."

1:45 PM PT
-- Cedillo's people just released a photo of the 26-year-old following a recent surgery ... pretty gnarly.

Shame on Paramount and Dreamworks for trying to avoid her medical bills, let alone punitive damages.

thats chicken feed, they must have payed off her legal team. The studios don`t pay a dime they have to have proper insur/coverage to even start to shoot..their rates will go up a bit for a while. They should have never used her personal car and they should have had a proper harness and muti point harness mountings on both car and nylon not metal cable

Ridiculous. How greedy can you guys be? The poor girl now has permanent brain damage and you guys don't pay for it? Seriously? I'm 100% sure 350k is like pocket change to you guys.

That's a tough lot in life. I hope she recovers as best as possible and I'm glad she will have the money to ensure she has competent care for the remainder of her life.

this is another example of why I'm scenes like this every driver should be a stunt driver, not that it would've made a difference but why chance it? a stunt driver could've had the experience and reactions to help himself... and if he couldn't and was still injured then the studio would've never had to pay because anyone doing stunts accepts that risk

In this whole paragraph no where does it say that the movie studio was responsible for the saafety of her when she drove her car. She was the idiot in this. I hate it for her. She should get some money not that much. I knew the girls mom would go too far and ask crap load. People these days.

Your article left out this girl will suffer memory loss, convulsions and the sight lost in one eye forever plus the studio DID NOT PAY her medical bills and she had to have public aid until she sued them. Shame on them.

This is what happens when a non union background uses their own car for a stunt when union stuntmen should have been involved. Great to work in a nonunion state.....
