Ernest Borgnine, the legendary actor perhaps best known for his role in the movie "Marty," passed away today at the age of 95.

His longtime spokesman, Harry Flynn, told The Associated Press that Borgnine died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his family by his side.

Borgnine won an Oscar for "Marty" in 1955 and also starred in movies such as "From Here to Eternity" and "Bad Day at Black Rock."

On the small screen, Borgnine played Quinton McHale in the 1960s show "McHale's Navy."

Borgnine served a total of 10 years in the United States Navy, the last four coming after he re-enlisted when the U.S. entered World War II.

From what i see he was very respected as an actor and he was from old hollywood where they have allot of style and class and they did not act like idiots like the "stars" do today.

What do you say about someone, who has mad you laugh, cry and dream a bit larger? That is what Ernest means to me and to many. What an awesome man he was. His love for life and for the arts were so huge. I am thankful for what he has left behind for us to continue to enjoy. God bless you, Ernest. R.I.P.

Dear Tova and family;
We also grew up with Ernie and all the movies he made. He was with out a doubt our all time hero. My wife's father, Walter Diem served with Ernie in the Navy and we last spoke with Ernie when Walter's wife passed away. He was a great man and would say that, "he could always play the bad guy because that was why they called it acting", and acting he did better than anyone. May God rest his soul. Walter always kept in touch with Ernie and looked forward to receiving his Christmas card every year. He will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him.
