Sylvester Stallone is finally speaking about the death of his son Sage ... calling it a "horrible situation ... but it's something that is reality in life."

Stallone just appeared on "GMA" to promote his new "Expendables" movie ... when the reporter asked how Stallone was "hanging in there" since Sage passed away last month.

"It's tough it's very very tough," Stallone said ... adding, "But if you have good friends and your family’s support, it's just something that’s a horrible situation but ... hopefully it will heal and you try to get through it but it's something that is a reality in life."

Stallone noted that working on his new movie has helped him get through it ... saying, "It's important to get back and try to start reliving your life, otherwise you can go into a spiral."

Sage -- who starred in "Rocky 5" with Sly -- passed away on July 13 from an apparent drug overdose. He was 36.

I can't make a flip comment on anyone who is greiving. He's right though, even when you lose someone you love more than life itself the sun comes up and life goes on. There is a Beatles song that says "Life goes on within you and without you" and that is really true. I'm not a Stallone fan but I don't know him personally, and I wish him healing.

What great advice to give maybe what he said has helped someone watching. Time heals all no matter what time is needed to get through.

Its crazy how Sage didnt play Rocky Jr in part 6 after playing him in part V. They must have had a BIG fallen-out over the years.

From a former Lincoln High School Rail Splitter to another Hang in there brother! The most important thing to do is to be around positive people.

Sad about Sage. But TMZ peeps, Sly was on Good Morning America. The GMA logo is even in the pic you posted. Drink some coffee!

I'm sorry for any parent who loses a child. I can't even imagine... I don't want to imagine... how hard it must be!

Anyone else think Sly is starting to look more and more like the character, Corporal Weaver, that he voiced in Antz???

Compassion he has none... Especially in the 90's.

That said, he lost his son..and that must be tough - even for this chunk of coal.

I'm glad Sly has 'good friends and family support'. To bad his kid didn't.

First of all, no parent should have to bury their child, so hopefully his family can find peace in their memories. Second, Stallone was on GMA, not Today as stated in the article, as is evident by the banner at the bottom of the pic that says GMA...usually you're alittle sharper than that TMZ :)

Weren't he and his son on the Outs. If anyone paid attention the pictures that were shown of Sly and his son were when he was a kid. After that you did not see pictures of them together.

It's true that it's sad that his son died at a young age but let's get real they were not communicating for a long time.
