Tony Scott

Death Video

Being Shopped

8/21/2012 5:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0820_tony_scott_tmz_Article_1
Tony Scott's fatal leap off an L.A. bridge was captured on tape by multiple cameras ... one showing Tony crouched the moment he began to jump ... and TMZ has learned the shots are being vigorously shopped around ... for a price.

Multiple people reached for their cell phone cameras when they noticed a man climbing over a fence on the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro in the middle of the day ... and continued to roll as he jumped off and plummeted to his death.

Some people took photos ... some recorded video. The footage was also captured by a surveillance camera from a nearby business.

TMZ has seen the footage ... but we did not purchase the material. It's unclear if another media outlet has taken the bait.

Why is this different from the million other "death videos" out there on the internet? Not so long ago videos showing someone's death were called "Snuff Movies" and were completely illegal, with the arrival of the internet it seems to be OK now. Trying to make money out of showing someone's last moments on this planet is, however, a special kind of evil which is sickening.

What on earth is wrong with people nowadays?! People see someone who is obviously in distress and is looking to end their life, and instead of taking out their cell phones to call the police, they VIDEOTAPE it?! And then try to sell that video for money?! WTF??!!

TMZ is the one whom shot the vid in the first place and is now selling it elsewhere.Plus they were hired to hound him to death for the studio mob and when they could`nt they doubled him and left his already dead body in the river to find.Too many secrets in hollywoods murder inc system to hide them all

TMZ is so holier-than-thou. So it wasn't "taking the bait" when TMZ bought all those grainy Whitney Houston hotel shots etc. Just deal with the fact that you're sleeze, TMZ (and effin get better writers already).

I wish he hadn't gone this way. Brain cancer is a death sentence for some types of cancer, but he should have talked to more doctors and seen his options. Even if you only have a year to live, you can do a lot with that and enjoy yourself in life or with your family or with new experiences in so many ways, and often you don't get very sick until the very end too in brain cancers. He should have spoken to more doctors. It is just very sad. I think Hollywood has these kinds of dysfunctional obsessions with perfection and drama and it is possible this could affect one's actions to do these kinds of irrational things when something really serious happens. There are always options though if you just think things through, and I hope other people in similar situations will consider this. My condolences his family.

Good for you, TMZ, for drawing the line somewhere. How sad that people want to benefit from someone's despair.

It's a sad, sick world we live in when people will record a suicide, and it's exponentially worse that they'd try to profit from it. God have mercy on his family - the torment they're in right now is beyond most people's grasp. This just adds to it. Thank you, Harvey and the folks at TMZ, for having the decency not to be part of this depravity.

That is horrible and disturbing...instead of running to stop him, or try and talk him out of it, they reach for their cell phone cameras?? Who does that... and who are these sick people?! Trying to make money of someone's suicide is about the most disgusting thing I have ever heard.
