Gabrielle Giffords

Leads INSPIRING Pledge of Allegiance at DNC

9/6/2012 5:08 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Gabrielle Giffords just appeared on stage at the Democratic National Convention and led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance ... and the crowd erupted in an emotionally charged applause.

Giffords -- who is still recovering from the gunshot wound she suffered to her head during a shooting while meeting with constituents at a supermarket in Tucson in January 2011 -- was escorted to the stage by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

While Giffords had some trouble enunciating some of the words, she finished strong ... sporting a big smile while the crowd cheered her on.

After she finished, the crowd chanted her name ... with some people shedding proud tears.

Check out the clip -- pretty awesome.

I'm glad she's making a strong recovery. She's one of the few democrats that has the guts to support the
2nd amendment. Democrats need to realize that their party has been hijacked by extremists. This is not what JFK envisioned. And BTW, MLK was a Republican.

Gabby Giffords is a hero for what she had to go through, but the fact of the matter is that she's only up there because she went through all of that. Let's be honest - if she had never been shot, there's no way she gets asked to do this. That's why this is truly nothing more that a PR stunt, and it is truly shameful that she is being used by the Democratic Party.

You'd never believe how fast this crowd turned Pro-America once the cameras were turned on.
Great to see you Gabby.

Was it necessary for the Navy to name a ship after Gabrielle Giffords? There are so many brave men and woman that have fought and died fighting for our country who they could have named the ship after instead. I'm not sure Ms Giiffords deserved that honor?

I'm glad she said, "under God."

Now, my next question is, were President and Mrs. Obama saluting the flag with their hands over their hearts, or giving it the finger?
