Big Bird to Mitt Romney

Thanks for the Shoutout!

Big Bird
and the rest of the fine people at Sesame Street don't give two craps about Mitt Romney's politics -- but they're PUMPED he gave BB a shoutout during last night's Presidential debate ... despite the whole "Death to PBS" thing.

Sesame Street released a statement this morning following Romney's Big Bird reference, saying, "Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, educational organization. We do not comment on campaigns, but we're happy we can all agree that everyone likes Big Bird."

In case you missed the debate last night, Romney mentioned Big Bird in reference to cutting PBS funding in order to save government money.

Romney said, "I'm going to stop the subsidy to PBS ... I like PBS. I love Big Bird. But I'm not going to keep spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for it."

A rep for Sesame Street -- which has been a partner of PBS for 43 years -- says the show relies on PBS to distribute its commercial-free programming to children. In other words, no PBS ... no Sesame Street.

The CEO of PBS Paula Kerger told CNN this morning, "With the enormous problems facing the country, the fact that we are the focus is unbelievable to me. We are America’s biggest classroom, we touch children across the country in every home."

Long story short, Romney wants to kill Big Bird.

And someone please tell me... How is it a win when Romney was selling a sandwich with mystery meat (i.e. making many statements without any explanation of how he was going to accomplish all these lofty goals). Then says in one breath that he wasn't going ot cut education but says that he will pull funding from PBS in the next.

This man can't decide what his views are from month to month. Furthermore, he says in one breath that Obama had nothing to do with Osama's death, yet he takes all the credit for education in his State. Are you kidding me???

First of all, Obama made the decision to go in and get Osama. But Mr. Romney had nothing to do with the success of the education program what so ever. That work (from it's conception) was done by the Teachers, the parents and the students.

Boo on you TMZ. Why don't you do some have some real journalistic integrity and explain to our somewhat uninformed public that PBS has more than enough public funding through private donations to completely support itself independant of government funding? The only way you can attack Romeny now is this opaque comment b/c your fave candidate got schooled by old fashioned republican politics last night. I can still smell the burning flesh.

Take the money from the PBS subsidy, and put it in the pockets of the friends of Republicans, and don't try and bullchit that that isn't exactly what will happen to it.

PBS doesn't need government funding any more than Nickelodeon or Disney does. To claim they are "commercial free" is absurd. Not only do they make those "this program brought to you by BP corporation" announcements, the shows themselves are commercials responsible for billions in merchandising sales.

TMZ's blatant left-leaning politics strikes again. It's really starting to piss me off. If I want left-leaning political opinions, there are plenty of websites to find them. I come here for celebrity news, not the political opinions of ignorant college dropouts who are obviously clueless about the real world.

Sesame street does not need PBS, it could be a huge hit on normal networks or cable. The fact is, PBS needs sesame street otherwise no one would watch their shows. "public" television is a joke.

If Romney wins, more taxes to pay...If Obama wins, more taxes to pay. Whats the difference?

Romney kicked butt last night! And, I wholeheartedly agree that we should NOT be borrowing money from China to pay for public television!!! Everyone is jumping on Romney saying, he "wants to kill Big Bird" because they're furious that their Messiah did so darn HORRIBLE and Romney did GREAT so they're turning his words around and trying ANYTHING they can to turn the debate around for their all great and powerful Barry...

What is sad - is that the grandchildren do not know what Sesame St. is... with the advent of cable they watch stuff like Dora but do not get Sesame Stree.t I also doubt that anyone that is upset has contributed one dollar during drives for funding.... (BY PBS that is)

Razzy Mitt, , did you spend your young yrs with a expensive nanny, and not Big Bird, you didn't learn to count from "the Count? No one can make the "grouch" more grouchier than a Republican. In the 1970's I donated 60$ to PBS because they helped teach my child and received a beautiful, very nice made, Big Bird spoon, My 35 yr. old still has it, but I got for her older brother, but she found it, and asked for it. The public does donate, Liar. signed 1 of your 47%r's

This screams out distraction to me... Think of this "funny" misquoted statement about cutting down on Government loans to PBS. Mr. President, if this is your best response to last nights debate then you sir just lost a possible vote.

Thankfully i also dropped out of 'college " while i could form an independant thought that didn't involve getting a good grade_in oter words_I didn't sell out_'Liberals" yet it is they who want to grow big gov. and make us eat our spinach_organically grown of course_well it seems to me that if they themselves believed the liberal BS then they shouldn't buy their electric 40 miles /that's it/ VOLTs _they should go buy a used vehicle that won't pollute the earth like the BRAND NEW CARS DO_i mean, the new Priuus and hybrids do just as much polluting in the production as a Hummer. duh_hypoocrites !

Big bird makes millions, he’s 40 years old maybe he should pay his own rent. If he makes that kind of money wouldn’t he be a 1%er?

Sesame Street doesn't need taxpayer money. They make an a$$load of money selling their toys, dvds, cds, clothing, etc. Between Sesame Street and Barney, they could probably fund all of PBS. Their kids shows make alot of money from marketing.

this is more pro-Obama crap - no PBS doesn't mean no big bird - it means no big bird WITHOUT COMMERCIALS
