Over Romney PBS Attack --

He's Destroying Our Kids!

10/4/2012 11:10 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Former "Reading Rainbow" host LeVar Burton is PISSED after Mitt Romney threatened to cut PBS funding last night -- telling TMZ, Romney would be stealing an invaluable educational resource from underprivileged children.

LeVar tells us, "I am personally outraged that any serious contender for the White House would target as part of his campaign the children of America in this fashion."

"Educators across the country, as well as millions of children and adults know that the programming on PBS has been responsible for significant improvements in education, literacy, math, science and life skills for generations of our children."

In case you missed the Presidential debate, Mitt promised to cut funding to PBS claiming it isn't an essential government expense -- but LeVar's firing back, claiming, "PBS represents .00016% of our nation's budget, yet this free resource benefits kids across all economic circumstances."

He adds, "Defunding PBS directly punishes the less fortunate by removing this trusted and extraordinary educational resource available to all."

"On behalf of America's children, I can't stay silent. I encourage you to join me in fighting this short-sighted and frankly mean-spirited attack on our children."

But in the context of the statement of all the ****ing things Romeny could've picked for something to cut it was something that is 0.00016% of the budget, it was just a stupid example aimed at something that many have nostalgic, strong feelings for. Also Levar Burton has done more then any of you ****ing idiots and myself could ever hope to influence in your life times, accomplish something before you hide behind your monitors and talk **** about a great man.

Underpriviledged children do not have tv's. Maybe LeVar should find these things out.

Romney used that as an example of the choices that need to be made so that our country, drowning in $16 trillion dollars of debt, doesn't borrow one more penny from China. It's a much bigger issue than this kids' series.

Burton and other ACTORS should stick to acting(pretending they are something they are not) . Their opinions are no more valid than any other American . Why give them any more of a format to espouse their PERSONAL views?

So Mr. Burton wishes to continue borrowing money to fund a program that grossed over $120 million in licensing fees last year? The issue isn't the amount of money saved, its the fact that you can't keep borrowing money to pay for everything you want. I can't do it, Mr. Burton can't do it, Joe Biden can't do it and no matter what Pres. Obama promises, he can't do it either.

Wake up and smell the coffee, the spend at all costs tax the rich isn't working.

I can't believe the stink being made over this topic. PBS is a "public" service, not a government service. Their budget will have no problem bouncing back over the tiny portion the government gives them. Our children will not be "harmed" in any way. In fact maybe the big-wigs there in the corporate offices can take a page out of the rest of America's book and economize, downsize, tighten their belts- whatever you call NOT SPENDING SO MUCH ON THEMSELVES and leave our kids out of it.

I can't believe people are so ignorant. First of all, Romney never said that he was going to "Ax tv programming that is educational" he said he would stop giving taxpayer money to a multi-million dollar network which rakes in millions every year through donations and their biggest money maker sesame street royalties from around the globe. Secondly, go to Toys-R-Us and tell them that you want a tickle-me elmo doll for free to help educate your child, after all your tax dollars went to promote that toy, you should be able to get one free, if not then you would have to admit that PBS and Levar Burton is hindering your childs education for monetary gain. (I’ll wait while you ponder that for a moment, it’s called common sense!) Oh NO, if we don’t take money away from our families and give it to Levar burton and PBS then our kids will be stupid... D@mn you Romney, don't you understand? Our kids may not have a future because of Obamas policies, they may not have Jobs, they may be stuck facing an enormous debt that they and their children will have to pay back, while they live in a tent city because it's either pay for food or some other luxury like shelter, but Mr. Romney we want our children to be able to proudly stand under that bridge that they will call home and have the ability to read the sign on the gas station beside the highway and be able to Count "21 dollars per gallon, 22 dollars per gallon, 23 dollars per gallon"... so you see Mr. Romney our children cannot enjoy the Hope & Change that the Obama presidency has given them if you deny Levar and PBS the right to have the money that us Americans have worked hard for, after all isn't that the American dream, to break your back earning a living so that PBS can market their stuffed puppets all over the world? ( in case you haven't guessed by now, the sarcasm is intended!) Levar needs to have the enterprise plot a course back to Earth and then take a look around. The children are already suffering along with their families, many can't even afford t.v. and or electricity to watch PBS. Hey levar if you still can't see what this president has done to the families and Children of this Nation then maybe you need to put your visor back on!
