Oprah Winfrey

Holding Back About

Lance Confession

1/15/2013 6:25 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Oprah Winfrey is already talking about her 2-and-a-half hour "confession" interview with Lance Armstrong ... except she's not exactly revealing what he said to her.

Oprah appeared on "CBS This Morning" to talk about the sit-down ... but nobody on the set -- including anchor Gayle King -- really pushed her about what Lance said.

Oprah DID say Lance confessed about using performance-enhancing drugs during his cycling career ... but added, "He did not come clean in the manner I expected."

But nobody followed up with questions about WHY Lance's answers were so unexpected.

Here's what we do know:

-- Oprah says she prepared 112 questions for the interview, and got through most of them.
-- Oprah says "there were times" Lance got emotional, but she didn't drop details.
-- Oprah says she was so tough with her questioning, that Lance asked her to lighten up.
-- After the interview, Oprah says both she and Lance were exhausted and satisfied.
-- Lance's lawyers were NOT in the room during the interview.
-- Oprah suggests Lance's people leaked details about the interview to the AP.

The Oprah vs. Lance interview is set to air Thursday -- no word if Oprah plans to release any clips of the meeting before then.

Our question -- why the hell did the execs at CBS News let Gayle -- Oprah's BFF -- conduct an interview with this kind of news significance knowing she wouldn't push her hard?

If and when he comes clean then he might have some of his fans back in his corner. After years or lying and denying...it's just sad at this point!

Harvey , I agree 100 % with your last statement although I imagine Oprah set up exactly WHO would do her lead in interview. We all wait till Thursday like she wanted.

She's playing games to garner poor viewership.

Apologizing for letting someone down doesn't mean admitting to doping.

He also testified under oath that he never ever doped. That's should land him in jail.

And I hope she grills him on the money he received and does he plan to return ALL of it.

Man, I hate this guy.

If anyone needs some positive PR atm, it is Lance Armstrong, and Oprah is the best at giving her guests great PR. How do you think the interview went down? Here is a preview at http://sorrysods.com

really! really?

Why did CBS allow Gayle King to conduct the interview? Because any confession by Lance Armstrong at this point is too little, too late. No one cares. It's old news. Public opinion was set months ago and this subject has been covered far too long. He's a cheat, a fraud, and one of the consequences of doping/ steroids is testicular cancer. He likely caused his own illness and karma has already caught up to Mr. Armstrong.

OMG what sacrafice! thank you oprah for spending 2 and half hours of your precious time asking the 'tough questions' and becoming exhausted!
is there nothing this woman won't do to kick someone while they're down already?. she is one tough person, I bet she really showed him and us what's she's made of. of course lance got paid a pretty penny for lettting oprah humiliate him even more, it's an honor!.......if someone is going to kick in the face while your down, it's oprah! she's like that, you know. what a great place the USA is, thank goodness for oprah's sacrifice to make this country great!, as for lance: what were you thinking, idiot

I hope everyone boycotts this Oprah show. Lance only said enough to hopefully allow him to compete again. He knows there will be no criminal repercussions--just possibly some lawsuits. And with the amount of money he stole from people, he can afford it.
