'Dark Knight' Shooter

I'm Not Guilty ...

Because I'm Insane

5/13/2013 9:05 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

James Holmes
-- the monster behind the gruesome "Dark Knight" massacre last year -- has just entered a not guilty plea ... by reason of insanity.

A plea of not guilty had previously been entered on Holmes' behalf back in March by the judge because Holmes' lawyers weren't prepared to plead for him at the time.

The judge will decide whether to accept Holmes' new plea by May 28th.

Holmes killed 12 people and injured an additional 58 during the Aurora, Colorado shooting last July. He is charged with 142 crimes, including 24 1st degree murder counts, and 116 counts of attempted murder.

Prosecutors announced last month they would be seeking the death penalty.

no one is insane enough to not know that you don't go into a cinema and try and shoot everyone. unfortunately there is one person dumb enough to do it and think they can pull the old insane card.

It shouldn't matter if he declares his insanity. Insane or not, he needs to be put to death.

Yes, he did do what he did so that makes him guilty but the real question is - why did he do it? Not the fact that he did or didn't but why. I believe there's something mentally wrong with this man. I don't think a "normal" person could just do this. But if he was allowed to be guilty on based of insanity that typically means that will be accepted and only on the grounds that he has found to have some sort of issue. Therefore, calling him a monster because he's insane is just wrong.

A 'monster'? Like that 'monster' Vice Li who decapitated someone? I calculate that from the time Holmes started collecting together his arsenal to when he carried out the attack was 4 and a half months. Which is more than enough time for a psychosis to develop and then a break from reality to happen. That's not 'months' as in half a year or a year. Get your timescales right people! It seems that so far he has had two evaluations which are showing up a psychotic disorder. We don't know what the diagnosis is yet but he certainly has a right to go for the insanity plea if he feels he was not in control of his actions at the time of the crime due to a psychotic disorder.
