Carrie Fisher

Actress Carrie Fisher was born into Hollywood royalty. Parents Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds welcomed their daughter into the world on October 21, 1956 in Beverly Hills. She didn’t make her film debut until 1975’s “Shampoo” alongside Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn. In 1977, Fisher took on the role she is best known for as Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” franchise. She reprised this part many times over the course of decades. The late actress already filmed her scenes for “Star Wars VIII” before her sudden death in December 2016. Fisher suffered a heart attack on December 23, 2016 on a flight back to Los Angeles from London. She was rushed to the hospital upon landing and died four days later. Her grief-stricken mom died of a stroke the following day on December 28. The mother-daughter duo was buried side-by-side in a joint headstone at Hollywood’s Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Fisher was cremated, but some of her ashes were put into a Prozac pill-shaped urn. Her final on-screen role was in Season 3 of the Amazon Prime series “Catastrophe.” She passed soon after filming wrapped. Fisher is survived by her daughter, “Scream Queens” actress Billie Lourd, and beloved French bulldog, Gary, who has a massive following on his personal Instagram account. She gave birth to her only child on July 17, 1992 in Los Angeles with ex Bryan Lourd, managing director of the talent agency CAA. He came out as gay and married partner Bruce Bozzi in October 2016. Fisher confessed in her 2016 memoir, “The Princess Diarist,” that she had a secret three month love affair with “Star Wars” co-star Harrison Ford in 1976 when she was only 19. He was 33, married, and had two kids at the time. She got engaged to “The Blues Brothers” co-star Dan Aykroyd in 1980, but they never said “I do.” Fisher was married to singer Paul Simon briefly from August 1983-July 1984. After their divorce, they continued dating for many years on and off. She also dated an unidentified U.S. Senator. Fisher’s first foray into writing came in 1987 with the novel “Postcards from the Edge,” which was adapted into a movie starring Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine, and Dennis Quaid in 1990. She penned another non-fiction book, “Shockaholic,” in 2011. Besides “The Princess Diarist,” Fisher bared her soul in her 2006 one woman play “Wishful Drinking.” This was turned into an autobiographical book in 2008. HBO filmed a special about it in 2014 and 2015. Fisher opened up about getting diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1985, entering rehab in the mid-80s, and drug use as a teen. She became a mental health advocate. She also partnered with HBO on a documentary with her mom called “Bright Lights.” It was released shortly after their deaths.
