Jose Baez

Jose Angel Baez is best known as the lead attorney for Casey Anthony and NFL star Aaron Hernandez. Casey Anthony was acquitted of murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony, but was convicted of lying to police. Aaron Hernandez hanged himself on April 19, 2017 while serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murder of Odin L. Lloyd, his fiancée’s sister’s boyfriend. Just days prior to his suicide, Hernandez was found not guilty in a 2012 drive-by shooting in Boston. Baez was born on October 17, 1968 in Puerto Rico. He was raised by a single mother, growing up in the Bronx and South Florida. In the ninth grade, Baez dropped out of Homestead High School, got married, and became a father at the age of 17. Having earned his GED diploma, he joined the Navy in 1986. According to his resume, he spent three years at the NATO base in Norfolk, Virginia, trained as an intelligence analyst, describing it as "Cosmic Top Secret" security clearance. He left active duty in May 1989 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserve. On his return to civilian life, Baez divorced, attended Miami-Dade Community College, and graduated from Florida State University. In 1997, Baez graduated from St. Thomas University Law School, but was denied entry to the Florida Bar until 2005 due to financial irresponsibility. In the meantime, he was a paralegal, owned bikini businesses, applied for a real estate license, worked for LexisNexis, and various other jobs.
