in Georgia hours after a Monday Night Football game back in September.
Now, we've learned ... he hammered out a deal with prosecutors in which he agreed to plead guilty to reckless driving and speeding ... and in exchange, the DUI was dropped.
Turner was sentenced to 1 year probation and 30 days of community service. He was also ordered to complete a risk reduction program and submit to random drug testing.
Turner's rep, Michael Goldman, tells TMZ, "Michael is glad we can finally put this matter behind us. He's also very excited for the next chapter of his football career and remaining a pillar in his community."
has issued an apology to the Atlanta Falcons
and their fans for his DUI arrest ... saying the whole thing was a "bad decision on my part."
The star NFL running back addressed the media early Wednesday morning ... saying, "I'd like to apologize to Mr. Blank (Falcons owner), Thomas Dimitroff (Falcons GM), Mike Smith (head coach) and the whole Falcons organization and the fans out there for the situation that I’m in right now,."
“It was a bad decision on my part. I can’t say too much about it in detail right now. I’m just trying to move forward from here.”
As we previously reported 30-year-old Turner was initially pulled over Tuesday morning for speeding ... and during the stop, cops suspected Michael was drunk and arrested him for DUI.
When asked if he would be playing this week, Michael said, "Nobody has told me that I’m NOT playing so, I’m just going to prepare like I am.”
Still, Turner says he's disappointed in himself for putting himself in the situation in the first place -- "I’m just taking it day by day. I’m around the guys right now and they are keeping me encouraged and telling me to keep my head up and take it day by day.”

One of Michael Turner
's many baby mamas continues to rip him on Twitter despite a court agreement prohibiting her from doing so ... and the star running back wants a judge to get her to stop ... ASAP.
Turner and baby mama Maria Grissom are battling in court over Turner's daycare payments for their daughter. According to documents filed in Georgia, Grissom claims the Atlanta Falcons superstar NEVER pays his daughter's school money on time is demanding he pay her up to four years in advance ... to the tune of $59,121.
But Turner is firing back ... claiming he DOES pay the school on time and it's Grissom who is in the wrong ... blasting his personal life drama all over her Twitter account in violation of their court agreement.
In the docs, Grissom admits to the Twitter rampage, but is adamant that it's Turner's fault ... claiming she had to defend her reputation ever since one of Turner's OTHER baby mamas (he has four in all) was involved in a "ghetto fight"
at his house that made national news.
Turner is requesting to pay all the money he owes directly to the day care and NOT to his baby mama, and for her to stop talking trash about him on the internet.
A judge has yet to rule on the case.
superstar running back Michael Turner
and his baby mama just reached the most important decision of their parenting lives -- never to let their children appear on a reality show ... on one condition.
Michael and his ex Rasheeda Walker
have finally reached an agreement in their custody dispute regarding their second child -- born September 2011 -- hashing out a visitation agreement that's amenable to both parties.
According to the agreement, Michael will get to see his new son significantly during the off-season -- from January to August -- and on his bye weeks during the season. Turner also agreed to pay Rasheeda $6,000 a month.
But the best part -- according to the docs, "The parties agree that it is not in the best interest of either of the children to appear on any reality television show or program, absent mutual consent" ... meaning neither party wants the other to exploit the child on a reality show without the other's prior approval.
It's a pretty amicable conclusion -- considering Rasheeda and Turner's current GF got into a nasty golf club-wielding brawl
last month ... in front of the NFL star's Georgia mansion.
superstar running back Michael Turner
broke up a girl-on-girl BRAWL in front of his home yesterday ... when his new GF allegedly attacked his baby mama with a golf club ... TMZ has learned.
Cops were called to Turner's Georgia mansion Monday afternoon ... and discovered 32-year-old Rasheeda Walker
in front of the home ... bleeding from the side of her head.
According to the police report, obtained by TMZ, Walker claims she has 2 children with Turner and is "upset because he refuses to see them." She also claims she's pregnant with Turner's 3rd child and wanted to talk to him about the situation.
Walker told cops she knocked on the front door ... only to be ambushed by Turner's new GF Elizabeth Delacruz
... who was wielding a golf club and shouting, "YOU AT MY HOUSE NOW B*TCH."
Walker claims she grabbed the golf club away from Delacruz and the two began to fight ... until 5'10", 244-pound Turner came outside and broke the whole thing up.
According to the report, Delacruz told a slightly different story ... telling cops she only grabbed the golf club AFTER Walker sneaked into the house through an unlocked back door.
Cops report both women were scratched up ... and both suffered minor head wounds.
Both women told cops they did NOT want to press charges ... but Walker was issued a criminal trespass warning and advised not to return to the home. We reached out to Walker -- but she had no comment on the situation.
We also called Turner's reps for comment -- so far, no response.
