Celebs and Their Wheels
The world's most expensive car, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, just hit the road. It's a superstar in its own right, earning a statuette in the category of "fastest car" that the average consumer can buy.
So, are stars plunking down the $1.25 million asking price to drive a spanking new Bugatti?
Let's face it, only a famous face could smile through that kind of sticker shock. Many celebrities would love to go from zero to 60 in 2.1 seconds, but this new performer on wheels also hits 200 MPH in 20 seconds. Don't try that on Sunset Boulevard! And, the new Bugatti hits 253 MPH in less than a New York minute.
If it's not a Bugatti, what do stars tool around Tinseltown in? And what does it say about their personalities?
Surprisingly, one of the most popular star cars is the Toyota Prius Hybrid Electric Vehicle. The ultra-cool Owen Wilson pulled up in one in Hollywood the other night. Megastar Leonardo DiCaprio says he's happy to be a moving commercial for the Prius; he's proud that he and other family members drive hybrids.
Not only does the 'Titanic' star save at the pump, but he gets incredible gas mileage and makes a serious statement about greenhouse gases and global warming. Cameron Diaz and Kirstin Dunst also reportedly own the anti-flash, eco-friendly status symbol.
Then there are the diva drivers. Kelly Osbourne was recently seen in a dark-colored Maserati in Hollywood. Lindsay Lohan crashed her Mercedes into someone in West Hollywood. Chris Rock had to wait for over-worked valets to bring the right keys to his gray Porsche after a night in the Hollywood clubs. And Jesse Metcalfe was breezy and cool as he plunked his perfect bod into a silver Mercedes sedan in a parking lot.
Representing the bigger-is-better set: Petite Jessica Alba jumped into a big black SUV, driven by boyfriend Cash Warren, who sped them out of the Spider Club parking lot recently.
And then, there's Paris... And the Bentley... And her boyfriend Stavros driving that brand new shiny Bentley into a parked truck (all captured by TMZ cameramen, natch). But Paris has also been known to drive a big Land Rover.
Which brings up another point: Many celebrities show up in a different car every night (and often in the passenger seat) because the different license plate and ride throws off fans, paparazzi and stalkers. So do all of those cars belong to them? There are rumors that when some stars show off their rides on MTV 'Cribs,' the cars are indeed rentals.
So how do we know when a star's car is real? Well, you can always trick out your ride like Mr. Spears, Kevin Federline, who just got personalized rims on his shiny silver Ferarri.
