Katharine McPhee: "I'm Happy I'm Healthy"

Katharine McPhee: Click to watchAfter missing the start of the "American Idol" summer tour, Katharine is ready to get back on stage. In a one-on-one interview with her sister and "EXTRA" Special Correspondent Adriana McPhee, Katharine talks about the struggle she had when her voice gave out due to both laryngitis and bronchitis right before the tour was set to start.

"It was definitely difficult, especially with the media making assumptions about what exactly it was, she's ditching the tour for a movie, all these silly things...it's just part of the business and I'm happy I'm healthy."

Katharine said she cried when she thinking she'd be letting her fans down. "I felt horrible. It's a huge disappointment. You're not only disappointing yourself but you're disappointing the people who work for you, your fans most importantly....this is like my first official day of actually speaking."

McPheeverish fans will definitely be happy to learn that she'll be back on tour with the "Idols" starting tomorrow. Tune into "EXTRA" tomorrow for more of Adriana's interview with Katharine.

16. To Bob, I don't disagree with your comments when you suggest that people shouldn't be so quick to judge, especially if you don't know someone. HOWEVER, you've contradicted yourself here. You have stated "anyway. Katharine is a wonderful, kind, caring, honest person, who also just happens to be both incredibly talented & beautiful". How in the world would know this? do you know her personally?. And I'm sorry, but If you don't believe that these people don't use the media to create scenarious (sympathetic or otherwise) to advance their careers, than you are the one who has confirmed such a lack of knowledge with regards to the entertainment industry. IT'S A GAME!!

17. To Chriss: I appreciate your "not disagreeing" with me about people not being so quick to judge... just before you judged me. And you want to claim that I contradicted myself?

I suppose that I could've stated that this was "in my opinion", but I kind of figured that most people would be able to see that. Also, what I wrote about her is based not only on my own opinion, (and I freely admit that), but I also said quite clearly that it's based on all of the "comments coming from people who actually 'know' her personally"... or did you skip reading that part in your rush to "judge" me?

BTW; Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that what you meant to say was: "If you don't believe that these people DO use the media...", or perhaps: "If you DO believe that these people don't use the media...", etc, etc. What you actually wrote is what's called a "double-negative", and by definition is a contradiction of itself. Oh, and Yes, I do believe that "experienced" and "well-established" stars have been known to "use the media" to advance their careers. That pretty much goes without saying. My point was that; her missing the early AI tour stops, and letting it be known that she regretted it & that it was due to "Illness & Doctors Orders", etc, and not by her own choice, does nothing to advance her career. In fact there's a stronger chance that it could actually hurt it, and so therefore is not likely to be a case of her attempting to "use the media" to try to advance herself. It's counter-productive & so therefore that line of reasoning makes no sense.

But, in the end, I suppose that only Time will tell us for sure who is making an accurate assessment of her, and who is not. If I'm wrong, I'll come back out here & you'll hear me admit to that. I can only hope that "when" she proves to the rest of those out there who have misjudged her, (possibly out of jealousy & shallow spitefulness), that they will also have the strength of character to admit to & apologize for it in much the same way.

18. And.....we care about this over rated, over hyped, attention seeking witch, why? Cripes, I was hoping she would fade away after LOSING Idol. She is nothing but an obnoxious, overweight no talent....hey Kat.......you may want to consider the bulemia route again, if you even ever did it. Can't wait to see what her sister is like, eee gads, two of them - yuk.

19. To Bob - nice to see that you have so much time on your hands! Perhaps your the one who should grown up and get a life. Oh, and learn to read maybe, I did not judge but used your own words to emphasize my point. I could care less about Catherine McPhee, my point was this. EVERYONE who is given the opportunity for publicity, will use the media at whatever cost. If they need to spin a story to suit their situation they will ie. The eating disorder, the throat problems etc. Her disappearing act and suddent problems that went along with it, got her more attention than she would have had she won. Can you say DRAMA QUEEN!!!!

20. To Chriss: Hmmmm.... So, you honestly believe that; "EVERYONE who is given the opportunity for publicity, will use the media at whatever cost", eh? Well, I could truthfully respond to you that I "personally" know people who have been "given the opportunity for publicity",... and who have not used the media at whatever cost. I've known several "Drama Queens" in my life, and so far I've seen nothing to indicate to me that Katharine is one of them. I believe that you are jumping to conclusions that are unjustified in her case. I don't know what happened to make you so pessimistic & cynical about people in general, but I can assure you that I don't share in this low opinion that you seem to have of everyone else.

Now, I'm growing tired of this exchange, so I'll just end my part in it by wishing you the best of luck. Oh, and also by wishing the VERY best for two of America's newest rising young Superstars; Katharine McPhee AND Taylor Hicks! May they both achieve their fondest dreams, without losing sight of who they were at the beginning!!

21. To anyone who thinks she has been out of the media in the last 3-4 weeks that is not true. She has had her picture in People mag with her boyfriend July 2 in a pool. She has shown up for photo shoots such as the day after she announced she was sick and couldn't tour for promo in Cosmo Teen. There are alot more of the photo shoots for other things and the excuse was she didn't have to talk for those so she could have her picture made.
I might also add she was covered on playbill.com and broadway.com with the announcement last week of her co-producing a play. She has also been on tabloid tv shows especially Extra as this article talked about.
I don't think she will be a big star just in our "hair" for awhile.
Oh speaking of that...she is also the spokesperson for a hair product as of an unveiling yesterday in NY.
Give me a break....not in the spotlight?

22. I think both Chriss and Bob have too much time on their hands and you are both taking up valuable gossip room for the rest of us who could give two s***s about you guys' picking at one another.

23. I had laryngitis for 3 MONTHS...I was practicing for a musical at the time too. You can't stress your vocals...broncitis (sp?) makes you cough like crazy and that hurts your cords...laryngitis hurts your cords...you really do have to whisper doing that time. The people commenting she should have just kept going don't realize that her voice is now her career...without it, she has nothing. She has to keep it healthy and if it means not singing for a bit, then that has to be done.

25. Bob--- you're so right...

People actually have to put someone down, anyone for that matter, to cover up their own shortcomings in life. When they criticize, it makes them feel good. But it won't last, so they will do it again to someone else or to Katharine just to make themselves feel good. They want to justify the wrong things they do in their own life. What a cycle of bad character and bad attitude. These people are so negative that what they say reflect their hearts. They say that if a person's heart is full of junk, that's what will come out of a person's mouth.

Their bad character shows also how they are raised. By being negative on people surely is not helping their hearts and their minds. Why do you think people have heart attacks, strokes and cancer?

My hat's off to you Bob. Keep on keeping on. *smile*

26. i 100% agree with Bob. the girl was sick for god's sake. do you actually think that her missing the tour will give her positive feedback? like come on, she was brave enough to speak up about it and make it clear to everyone that shes not only sorry but grateful for the opportunity to be able to perform at all with the rest of the idols. just watch, this girl will make it farther than any idol has ever gone. i guarantee it.

28. Katharine is following doctor's orders period. Her health is the most important thing. Going on tour against her doctor's orders would have made her much worse, and she wouldn't be able to sing very well. So all this is a mute point. People that don't sing professionally don't understand this. She is a lovely girl, very talented, and has a heart of gold. I wish her all the best like many others do. People with the negative comments, are very uninformed.

29. so much for the right to free speach eh? I guess it's only Bob's opinion that counts on this thread and the fact that I dared to question it, made me someone in his opinion who is "pessimistic & cynical about people in general, but I can assure you that I don't share in this low opinion that you seem to have of everyone else." Thank you Bob, for your snap judgements, however, I do not have a low opinion of others and the fact that you, someone who has no clue of who I am, can make this type of comment, just shows how ignorant you are. Everyone here has too much time on their hands (including myself, I'll admit) WHO CARES about why the "stars" do what they do, it doesn't affect OUR daily lives in the least. Maybe we should all concentrate our efforts on actually doing something good with our time. I know I will, this was my first time on a thread like this and definately my last.

30. Hey, Chriss, no one said that you don't have the right to free speech. But while the Bill of Rights may protect your right to say whatever you want, it also doesn't guarantee you any protections from the consequences caused by whatever (dumb?) things you might say. If you write something that's either unfair or unjustified, and someone jumps on you for it, then you're just getting the response back that you deserve. The Bill of Rights protects their right to free speech too, ya know! What goes around, comes around.
