It's Official! Roth to Rejoin Van Halen

Break out your spandex pants, start practicing your karate kicks; David Lee Roth is officially returning as the front man for Van Halen.
Diamond Dave rejoins Van Halen
Founding band member Eddie Van Halen made the first official announcement to TMZ, saying "It feels like a whole new beginning to be back with Dave and to be playing with my brother and my son. We look forward to going on tour."

Roth, an original member of Van Halen, quit the group in 1985. He rejoined the band briefly in 1996, only to quit again a few months later. Roth hasn't performed live with the group since 1984.

As TMZ first reported
, Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, will be playing bass with the supergroup on their upcoming tour. According to the band's rep, Janie Liszewski, the tour will cover most major U.S. cities, including L.A. and New York.

46. Tell that to Aerosmith, U2, Rolling Stones and others Lenn K. Just because a band was popular in the 80's doesn't mean they can't still put out decent music that people will buy.
What, should they check themselves into a nursing home or something?

47. I saw Diamond Dave a couple years ago when he went around with Sammy H. Dave was still the showman but his vocals were weak. He had trouble with his higher ranges and his voice was almost shot by the end the the set. I hope he has gotten himself back to form or this will be the farewell tour.

50. Van Halen stopped being Van Halen when Dave left.

Can he pull it off again? I really don't know, but you can be damn sure that he was the only one in the band that had charisma back then.

Don't get me started on Sammy Gaygar - that turd hitched a free ride and turned a decent rock band into the symbol of 90's cheese rock that they are now.

Eddie V. is a one trick pony and without a true frontman on stage to entertain us, his smokin fingers get old REAL FAST.

I hope it all works out, but I have my doubts.

51. This is going to be exciting! I always felt that David Lee Roth was the better frontman for Van Halen than Sammy Hagar. I think that David wanted to do this less than two months before that Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. Wonder if Sammy will be there. But about Eddie Van Halen's son in the band, I don't know if that's a good idea. He's too young to do a strenous tour schedule if they plan to do it this summer. I wonder if Wolf knows all the parts in Van Halen's songs. I hope that they can all settle their differences and appear together to accept their award in March. I wonder if Sammy will appear--imagine the fireworks exploding on the same stage.

52. To answer comment #43, some bands from the '80s are still performing in 2007 and aren't going to say it's over! They're going to keep on performing regardless of what the naysayers think! They love to perform for the masses! David Lee Roth is rejoining Van Halen to see if they can do it one more time for the fans!

57. To "Fruits and Nuts" and "Homegirl"...
What is this reunion performance you are talking about? Yeah, they recorded a few songs and showed up at the video awards, but I have never heard of them actually playing live together.

Anyway, let's just hope DLR doesn't wear the seatless pants again.

58. 1/2 way thru the tour and Dave will bale. At least Sammy never baled. oh yea.....................and "WOLFY" sucks!!!!!!

59. David Lee Roth is VanHalen, and the rest of that band is jealous of all the attention he commands. Shame really. Don't knock this talented dude. He may be an idiot...but he's a lovable idiot, just the same. Without David, the band is NOTHING. And that will be his ultimate downfall. VanHalen bros, sooner or later, will oust their star ONCE AND FOR ALL, in the name of harmony. Which is a good thing...then they can return to being what they are, HAS BEENS. Roth is better off WITHOUT Van Halen...go ahead, JUMP Dave!

60. Hey Paulie, I agree that VH isn't VH without DLR. VH had a few good songs with Sammy, but it was music for the wine cooler crowd at that time.

But... DLR equally needs a killer guitarist/songwriter (i.e., Eddie, Steve Vai), to be of any worth. Without that, he's just another (albeit great) lounge singer.

Anyway, still my fav band of all time.
