"Idol" Hopeful Nixed from H'wood for Pot Rap?

2/7/2007 1:30 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Mugshots of Akron Wilson and Ashlyn CarrAkron Watson, an "American Idol" contestant from Dallas and one of the feel-good stories of the new season, has been disinvited from the Hollywood round of the show, possibly after producers discovered a pot bust on his record.

Watson, whose San Antonio audition aired on last night's "Idol," was arrested in April 2003 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to court records obtained and posted by PegasusNews.com, by way of Reality TV Magazine. He was headed to Hollywood after impressing the judges with his singing, and his story. But Watson tells Pegasus News that two days before he was scheduled to leave for Hollywood, he received a call saying that he would not be competing anymore "for unknown reasons." "Idol" producers did not comment on their withdrawn invitation.

Meanwhile, another contestant from San Antonio, facemaker Ashlyn Carr, was reportedly arrested in August for pouring sugar into the gas tank of her ex-boyfriend's car while a student at Sam Houston State University, according to a report in The Houstonian Online.

When confronted by police, says the Houstonian, Carr confessed to the crime.

A spokesman for FOX had no comment.

Many people who have been busted for something pay their debt to society and go on to become some of the best role models. They have been through the process and can help others not fall into that hole. They shouldn't be penalized again. However, I believe that they are penalized because they failed to be honest on the application to the question: "Have you ever been arrested for anything? and if so, state reason". They should remove that question because the public is denied seeing the best talent the country has to offer. They would have never let Bob Marley, The Beatles, and many new artists try out because they have been arrested for something or other. We need to relax the qualification process.

Just because someone has something that tarnishes their past does not mean that it tarnishes their entire character. EVERYONE, whether you have the guts to admit it or not, has something in thier past that they hope remains buried there. It is not what they have done rather what they are doing now and will be doing in the future that makes someone a good role model. Learning from past mistakes, being able to acknowledge that they are human and make mistakes..that is what a role model is. Putting someon on an impossible pedistal of perfection only leads to some, media hyped tragic downfall. Whatever happened to stories of overcoming adversity and surviving lifes trials? That is what a role model looks like.

I agree that they should let the pot charge go and he should stay in the competition. But where do some of you people come off by saying that everyone has tried and is currently using pot? I for one am not a current user. I don't appreciate idiots who do use and it's obvious by your comments that using has killed some of your brain cells!

Whatever.

i wasn't going to comment on this...you guys were amusing me enough with some of your pointless/repetitive comments, but come on...

#54 "I see your point, but their have been more white winners than black..."
[and others who try to throw race into the argument]

...seriously. it's a TALENT competition. they don't try to "even it out" by making sure the winners aren't all of one skin color. it's America's vote, and they vote on talent and personality. it just so HAPPENS that only 2 winners so far have been african-american. now, if there have been like 15 seasons, you MIGHT have a point here, trying to throw that into the argument. but there's only been, like, 5 seasons so far right? it's "2 vs 3" [black vs white winners]...that's not much of a difference to go on...

Miranda, it is obvious by the grammar in your posts that you are only 23 and a pothead, since you seem to have been shit-faced when you wrote them all. What is really amazing is that you even went to college, let alone work with 40 people under you! Are you sure you just aren't high and imagining all that? You are either a legend in your own mind, or you work at the Walmart in Hooterville. Try getting high off life, it's cheaper and healthier! And as for Rina, the mother of 2 who smokes pot...do you let your kids and family see you do this, and would you offer them some? You're setting a real nice example of a parent. What I want to know is, why you all feel you need to get high in the first place? If you can't cope with life, maybe you need to see a shrink!

Here in Birmingham, there is a story cerculating. Jerd Mims of Clanton, was forced to leave befor the judging in Hollywood started. I did hear Simon say that there would be no winner from Alabama. This was said before all of the Alabama contestens were sent home this week. Anybody know more on this please write.
