Did Imus Get Off Easy at MSNBC?

"Nappy-headed hos" and "Get AIDS and die" -- both were said by personalities on the MSNBC airwaves -- one got a two-week suspension; one got canned. Does that sound right?
Don Imus, Michael Savage
Don Imus received a two-week suspension yesterday from both CBS Radio and MSNBC (which simulcasts his radio show) after he referred to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." But four years ago, Michael Savage, who had a weekend show on MSNBC at the time, referred to a caller as a "sodomite" and said he should "get AIDS and die." Savage was fired in what was referred to at the time as any "easy decision" by MSNBC spokespeople.

Imus and his crew have a long history of making comments that might be considered inappropriate; they once called the New York Knicks a group of "chest-thumping pimps."

As part of his suspension yesterday, an MSNBC statement said, "Our future relationship with Imus is contingent on his ability to live up to his word."

Does he even deserve a future? Vote.

151. What's the big deal about this so-called 2-week suspension? His is a popular RADIO show which happens to be simulcast on MSNBC. His fans will continue to listen to him as they always have.

152. I feel IMOUS was the most honest person on the net works. He has done more good and he gets put off for a bad coment. I was watching him when he said that and i didn't think it was as bad as t hose songs that i won't listen to. Every one has a switch and the option to shut it off if they wish.

153. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that everyone is making this a black/white issue... it's way bigger than just that! It was demeaning to women (of all colors), females with tattoos, women who choose not to conform to the stigmatism that your hair has to be straight to be accepted, and not to mention those specific individuals and their families. These are positive, goal seeking women who were doing what they do, who came under negative comments, when they should be respected for doing something positive. Not only are they showing young women that a college education is obtainable, but that sports in no longer a male dominated forum!

154. I am black person and sometime I would look at Imus.I miss this show as it was Holy Week and I was listen to EWT Net work .I think Imus has said bad thing to most older white men ,but it was most of the time where they could give it back to him or laugh it off Mostly he went after David Gregory and they took it.But these were young ladies mind their business trying to get an Education. He went over the line.I would not have fired him but would like to have seen him work for a year without pay .The money would have been a great help to educate more women .Hit him in the pocket.Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton just go wild .If the media would not give them the time of day when anything like this happen .They would drop out of sight.I had a History teacher she had a saying "EMPTY BARRELS MAKE THE MOST NOISE"this is where I put these two men.We need some young black minds to speak for the blacks. Don't ask them a thing ,PLEASE DON'T GIVE PUT THEM IN FRONT OF A TV CAMERA NEVER AGAIN.It will help all of us .ASK SOMEONE ELSE . I hope we all have learn to speak with kindness and care.

156. I'm a 75 year old female and a Don Imus fan - I switch back and forth between Imus and C-Span... I don't hear all this prejudice on this program that the people that don't watch Imus are telling us that this is what is happening... I hear more prejudice on C-span from the public than I do on Imus... Have these people that have decided Imus must go, going to pick up the work for the charities, the di-abled vets and the kids with autism and cancer, or are they going sit on the self-righteous butts and see who else they can go after?

158. I think the major result of NBC firing Don Imus has been increased hostility between whites and blacks. I know personally how much I have been affected; Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson are two of the biggest bigotted, racist, self proclaimed determinors of what's good and what's not good. Rapper and hip-hoppers surrounded by all but naked, grovelingblack women while they sing stupid lurics (sorry but it's really true; the lyrics are usually STUPID)about the valuelessness of women, white people etc., also include all of the words, plus, plus and plus, that a white person, Imus, would be burned at the stake and thrown off the stage for saying.. As long as there are hip-hop and rapper lyrics demeaning women, prasing drugs, guns, etc. we either agree we have a double standard.; Blacks get total 'free speech' but whites had better watch out; their jobs may be one word away from ending. GIVE IMUS HIS JOBS BACK. He apologized and it was accepted and the involved people said they don't want him to lose his job. Admit you acted too quickly and take him back. He doesn't deserve this. It's too much punishment.

159. The one who is without sin, cast the first stone. People, clean up your own act, then you can pick on others. Al and Jessie have used the word Hoe more in one day that Imus has said it in his whole life.
Self love is the one thing black people seem to lack. I love black people that have it. Nobody can take it from you. It is the one gift that you must give to yourself. It is also the one thing that you must have, so you can recieve the respect that you seem to think comes from us? Why should we respect you, when you don't even respect each other, or yourselves? Al hase used that word in refrence to his own wife. A wife is someone that you are suppose to love more than you love yourself.
Bill Cosbey warned all of you years ago to stop this nasty language. He is the one, that you called names, that was a thousand times worse that what Imus said on the radio. Thiis is a prime case of a double standard.
Don was man enough to appologize. Has A or Jessie appologized yet to their own lives. Al and Jessie are the ones shat should have their mouthes washed out with soap

160. Ho's and bitches have been used freely by the black community. Woman have tolerated this type of language to depict them. Until the rap, hiphop, etc. stop using these words, someone like Imus innocently will use them and then bloody hell. Karyann

161. So, after all this, where is the apology to the Duke lacrosse players? Hey Al, Jesse and anyone else who pilloried these kids, (remember, innocent until proven guilty), stands up and is as forthcoming as they were with Imus' situation! These guys are as gutless as they say everyone else is who doesn't stand up and "speak truth to power." Well, I guess the race card will continually be played, unfortunately, its' s only being played on a one way street these days..
