Jake's New BFF

Forget Matt and Lance, Jake Gyllenhaal has a new buddy.

Jake was spotted in San Diego last week, visiting the set of HBO's pilot "John from Cincinnati," where his pal Austin Nichols plays the lead. Gyllenhaal arrived and was immediately escorted to Nichols' trailer, where they spent most of the day. Austin left the trailer only to grab some grub for the two from catering tables. This photo shows the best friends at a Lakers game in 2006.

Then, this past Saturday, TMZ spies spotted Jake and Austin in Los Angeles, having a quiet dinner at Jar restaurant. The two eluded having their pic taken by paparazzi when they escaped through the kitchen's backdoor. Reese Witherspoon, who has been romantically linked with Jake, was not present.

This is not the first we've seen of Jake and Austin -- their friendship goes back to the 2004 filming of "The Day After Tomorrow." Unlike the trio of Jake, Matt and Lance, this duo appears to be a lasting friendship.

31. That whole Jake and Reese thing seems so fake to me. I'm much more inclined to believe that there's something between Jake and Austin. They sure make a cute couple.

32. #1. I've seen pictures of Jake looking at dogs and cars the way he's looking at this guy. Jake gazes. He looks at his sister the same way.
#2. This guy, Austin has a LOT more to gain from associating with Jake than vice versa. Who ever heard of this jerk before he started hanging out with Jake! He's just not memorable.
#3. If i was seeing a woman in the middle of a divorce and we totally didn't want you to track us, I'd throw somthing like this out there to throw you off. And it's obviously working. Dummies.

34. Those who discount any relationship...

Jake spends an entire day inside of Austin's trailer and they were playing video games, watching TV, running lines, playing Parchisi, general buddy stuff, anything and everything, but THAT, it couldn't possibly be THAT.

If Jake had spent an entire day inside of Reese's trailer, the tabloids and fangirls alike would be screaming marriage right around the corner, and making lewd hand gestures to illustrate what transpired behind closed doors.

Can you not see the hypocrisy in this line of thinking?

35. Jake and his boy toy are so cute together! Gay men are so hot!! A shame for us ladies, but, honestly, even if he was straight, he was a way off my league... So, be gay honey and be happy, lots of love for the new couple! H-O-T!!

39. I have never seen a straight man look at another straight guy like that. Personally, I could care less who he sleeps with. He's a doll and seems like one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.
