John Singleton Involved in Fatal Pedestrian Accident

John SingletonJohn Singleton, acclaimed director of "Boyz in the Hood," was involved in a fatal accident Thursday night in Los Angeles.

LAPD officers tell TMZ Singleton was driving his 2001 Lexus SUV around 8:00 PM on a Los Angeles street, when a female pedestrian, not in a crosswalk, suddenly stepped in front of Singleton's car. Police say Singleton immediately stopped and waited for police and an ambulance to arrive. The 57-year-old woman, identified as Constance Russell of Los Angeles, was taken to a nearby hospital where she died Friday morning.

Police tell TMZ Singleton was not speeding at the time and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Cops say their investigation has concluded and they've determined that this was a "very, very unfortunate accident."

Singleton will not be cited for any violation.

A call placed to Singleton's agent was not immediately returned.

16. I truly hope that John and the victim's family can heal from this unfortunate accident.
Punkbrat- You should be ashamed of yourself for being so insensitive and obnoxious about such a tragedy.

17. Aw man...That's awful...And I just saw Mr. Singleton at his own screening of "Ilegal Tender" this past Tuesday in Westwood, CA ( I loved the film, btw ) . My heart goes out to the victim and family and to Mr. Singleton and family.

A "gangsta" wouldn't have stayed and waited for the police and ambulance.

Singleton has a very solid reputation in the industry as a reliable professional, intelligent, creative director. I believe he has a family that has been together for quite some time with no scandal. This incident by all accounts was not his fault.

You on the other hand are a racist.

19. L. A. Driver. I went to NY a few years ago. They don't care who has the right of way. The pedestrians jay walk. I have seen them cross the street while a big ass bus has the right of way. Isn't one of the first things we teach our kids to do is to cross at the light when it is your turn? Too many ppl in such a rush to get no where fast. Read a story of a pedesrian crossing a rail road track while texting. He cleared the one with the train on the tracks he was waiting to pass. He was texting and did not realize the track on the other side had another train coming. He got hit. Not sure of his conditon.

20. #12, well said.......

Only in CA do people walk out in front of cars with total disregard. Having driven in other parts of the country, CA has the worst pedestrians when it comes to yielding.....

24. # 15 I love your comment to # 13. First of all the Boyz in the hood movie is like from the late 80's. I have seen the movie so many times I can't count. John is a guy who has only been in the headline/news because he makes great movies. And the moive was about truth and to awaken the eyes of retaliation. An eye for an eye just leaves/brings more grief. "enough said".

26. This is so sad. My thoughts are with all concerned. I wonder exactly which area of LA this happened in. Traffic in LA is terrible, there aren't enough stop lights, we need pedestrian bridges and tunnels so pedestrians don't have to cross in traffic. It is sad that this had to happen.

27. Yes, i saw him on KTLA/CW news this morning. He was on at least 15 minutes talking about the news of the day! It sounds like he is innocent and this woman was not paying attention. But I'm surprised that he acted as though nothing had happened.

28. It's not his fault. The pedestrian was irresponsible.

I hate it when pedestrians just jumped out and expected all cars should stop right away. Sometimes cars are moving at certain speed and you just can't stop it next second even if you want to.

29. Accidents do happen. Was she walking in the crosswalk> Was she wearing light or reflexed clothing. Pedis. must take precautions also.

30. We don't know the details to suggest anything at all about the ladies actions, why she walked out in front of the car.
But I bet the post that said her family will sue anyway is probably right once they find out who hit her.
