Michael Vick Officially Pleads Guilty

8/27/2007 11:41 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Michael Vick pleaded guilty Monday to a federal dogfighting charge. He is now awaiting a sentencing date that could send him to prison to serve some serious time.

Vick, who is suspended indefinitely by the NFL, entered his guilty plea before a U.S. District Court judge in Richmond, VA.

Sources inside the courtroom report that Vick was stoic during the proceeding.

U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson, who accepted Vick's plea, asked the QB, "Are you entering the plea of guilty to a conspiracy charge because you are in fact guilty?" Vick quickly answered, "Yes, sir." The judge replied, "You're taking your chances here. You'll have to live with whatever decision I make."

get real people! vick wont see a jail cell over this! the rich dont go to "prison"! he'll do82 minutes and be done with it all. dogfighting for sport is truly a very sickening thing but please remember that dogs have fought since the beginning of time. any male dog that is out on the streets loose will fight any other male who happens upon him. i sincerely hope we never see vick in another jersey but i'm sure because of his talent we will.

Whatever happened to natural selection? Some people don't deserve to breathe my air!

When someone is violent towards an animal the tendancies are there that they would be violent towards humans...it's a proven psychological fact ! There is a very thin line between the two, if at all.

How about we RESPECT ALL LIFE, then the idoits with "they are just dogs" would shut up and the monsters like Vick would'nt exist and we would'nt be in Iraq and people would in general stop killing everything that breathes including our planet. Oh thats right then it would be a happy world, yeah right. He belongs in jail with his fellow thugs, maybe they'll put him in the dog ring to fight for his life

I am really skeptable about this NFL suspension. Look, Vick is going to jail. He can't play ball ANYWAY. So he goes to jail for 18 months (a real skate there!) and they suspend him for 18 months. What does that say? It says that NFL is only interested in money and spin! Already the commissioner is laying the ground work to bring him back “when his legal issues are resolved”! Now if they KEEP him suspended AFTER he gets out, then, and only then, will I give credence to their sincerity. And this BS about this being race based is so much c**p and the NAACP can go pi** up a rope!

This has absolutely nothing to do with his race! They try to defend him by saying that we kill animals all the time. Well, that's true. But we don't torture them, nor do we make them engage in bloody battles for our entertainment. If and when we have to kill an animal, we do it quickly and humanely!

Vick, according to his father, has been into this cruel and bloody entertainment since he was a teenager. How many dogs in that time do you imagine he has made fight to a cruel, painful, drawn out and bloody death, and how many more have been maimed and still others killed in a cruel way?

Basic question is, of the several methods that Vick used to kill the animals, how many, and which ones, would you consider to be acceptable if you had to execute a condemned criminal, a human being like that guy who was just sentenced to death for raping and burying alive 9 year old Jessica Lundsford?

Hmmm? OK, well, maybe that isn't a good example since making that guy suffer wouldn't particularly bother me. I might even consider joining in. But let's say just it was the run of the mill killer. Would you consider drowning to be an acceptable method to put him down? Or throwing him against a wall? Or manual strangulation? Or electrocution - on HOUSE CURRENT? I don't think many would say yes to any of those. But Vick did. He was cruel and he enjoyed being cruel. And don't give me that BS about he only admitted to being there! That's BS and you all know that! He did it and he did it with his own hands!

If he really wanted to just put the animal down, why not do what the vet does when he puts down a sick animal? Lethal injection! Surely he could afford to pay a vet to do that! Or if not, the materials are readily available to do it yourself. NO, he choose methods that satisfied his need for cruelty and narcissism. But the manner of killing the animals is not the big issue. It's the fighting of the dogs itself. Of forcing them into such viciousness and cruel battles. That is far worse than the actual killing of the animals, however horrendous that is in and of itself.

Vick was allowed to skate on his plea. He gambled on the fights. We know he did. To say he didn't gamble is pure BS and we all recognize that. He was allowed to side step that part of the plea so he wouldn't be banned from NFL for life and also so that he didn’t get a RICO conviction. The NFL should conduct it's own investigation into the gambling and when they find that he did gamble, as we know they will IF the bother to look, he should receive the appropriate life time ban just like others have in the past!
Yes, he committed a crime (A horrendous one). Yes, he is going to pay his debt (But not the full accounting that he should have been held to!). And, yes, when he comes out he should be allowed to prove his rehabilitation and redemption (which I seriously doubt he will ever be able to adequately do) and there after to live his life. I agree. But, he has so egregiously betrayed the celebrity and privilege award him that he should NEVER be allowed to serve again in any degree whatsoever as a role model for our children or others. The very fact they there are now those that defend his fighting and killing of the dogs proves my point. These are people who are either totally blinded by his celebrity and fame that they refuse to see the truely horrendousness of his actions, or those so racist that they will defend the actions of ANY one so long as they are black! With such privilege and acclaim comes a higher standard that you are held to. As a life long Paramedic and public servant, I was held to a higher standard, just as police officers and fire men and others. I didn’t object tp it; I welcomed it! Just as, I’m sure, all the other Paramedics, Law Enforcement and Public Safety workers do. Comes with the territory. So as it is with star athletes and other celebrity role models. If you hold yourself to be a role model as he has, then you must live to that higher standard!

NO. Vick should not be suspended JUST for the duration of his jail sentence, but for far, far longer, if not for life. That fits his crime, nothing less. He should be banned from ever owning or being in the presence of any animal for the rest of his life. Just like a pedophile and children - no difference.

Sorry

Reality is....

Joel...

This is before a FEDERAL judge, and it's NOT in Los Angeles.

He will see jail time, and if the state picks up charges against him too, he might see even more.

There is a big difference between federal courts and your local "county court system".

Federal court is serious business, not the typical DUI charges here.

Take off, eh?

To "Perspective" from back at comment #4.

Did you write what you did just to annoy people and see the commments spill in, or are you really that ignorant a human being? I'm guessing the latter of the two.

Regardless; I have to ask what's with the comment "Americans and their pets"?? I'm Canadian and am beyond pissed off at this creep for the pain he caused innocent animals just to get his own kicks. And if you are in fact Canadian, you're an embarassment to anyone else North of the border of the US.

It's true that celebs seem to get off with lame sentences over the average Joe. And what makes it even more disgusting is for us to read that some person with celeb status could be so cruel to animals. It's senseless. You'd think they'd take their millions and go build homes for the homeless, or dump money into other countries in need of it. But maybe I ask for too much from these gazillionaires....

I suppose someone has to pay for all that stupid bling they were. I bet the earrings Vick has on in this picture are worth more than the next 20 years of my salary.

The government was more concerned with the gambling and unreported income aspects of this case than they were with the cruelty of fighting animals. So, no, it's not just about the dogs. Face it, this wasn't just dogfighting, this was an elaborate gambling ring organized and financed by Vick. Is that really something that you think should go unpunished?

The NFL has already said that any suspension he gets will begin AFTER he completes his prison sentence, which I think is the right decision.

Furthermore, the Falcons will move to recoup the bulk of his signing bonus, anywhere from $20-30 million, according to reports. And of course, he won't be paid during his prison sentence and suspension.

Anyway you look at it, this will be very costly for Vick.

To # 49,

I cannot stand people who are 12 years old and try to make a point in an apparent adult conversation. Or maybe you aren't 12 years old but just poorly misinterpretting the actual discussion at hand.

I guess I'll stop caring about those "damn dogs" who had their skin ripped from their bodies and eyes gouged out and then put to death by Vick the Prick, and re-focus my energy to start caring about the man who made the dogs teach eachother apart in the first place.

Hmmm...um...nope. Don't think I'll change my opinion.

BTW: who the hell puts a rabbit on their wall
