"Supernanny" Kid Sets Fire to Home

10/2/2007 1:50 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

News flash! Reality TV shows won't solve every crisis! One family found out the hard way, when their wacky kid set fire to the family home -- after appearing on the TV show "Supernanny." Burn!

Supernanny Jo Frost -- who appears on both British and American versions of the show -- visited Paul and Susan Young and their five children in 2005 in their UK home. Frost attempted to help the Youngs tame their rambunctious boys, all under age 11, but mom said that appearing on the show made the kids behave worse and play up to cameras.

The fire appears to have been started by 3-year-old Joel while he was home with mother Susan, and his siblings were in school. Damage to the home was so severe that the family was forced to move into a hotel. Is "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" casting?!

The fire started in the kitchen, said Essex police officer Terry Hutton. As Young attempted to put the fire out, "the little boy went through the dining room and set fire to the curtains," reports the Daily Mail.

The article says that Supernanny visited their home in 2005. That would make Joel one-year-old at the time of her visit. I doubt that he even remembers her coming so it is obviously not Nanny Jo's fault. Besides, I think I remember this episode and Joel was actually more well-behaved than his siblings at the time, probably due to his young age.

Obviously, these parents never followed through w/ Joe's training. It's an excuse to say the boys just know how to glam the camera..

How could Susan keep matches, lighters, etc.. (whatever it was that the boy used to start the fires) where he could get them??

I think they need a refresher course...

Parents these days are incompetent and don't want to take any responsibility for their kids. It appears that this mother is saying that the show and the nanny only made things worse. Boo-freakin'-hoo. She invited them and the doesn't follow the rules, this is what she gets. Her childrens' behavioral problems are her fault and the blame is solely on her and husband's shoulders.

As far as the fire, where in God's name was she? How did her 3-year-old get a hold of matches or a lighter? This woman should shut up and crawl back in a hole. Oh, and stop having kids you can't take care of...there is a thing called birth control.

I think this proves that this family needs more help and not some "reality" show designed to get ratings and sell advertising. Showing up for one week is not going to do the trick for these folks!

RRRRRRRRRRRRR

Have you ever seen a SuperNanny episode that did not have weak, stupid, and/or dysfunctional parent(s) as the root of the family problem? It is a recurring theme on that show--Poor parents translate into troubled angry children. If my math is correct, Supernanny visited in 2005, when this out-of-control three-yr-old child was only one. How did SuperNanny's visit during a time when this child undoubtedly has no memory cause a three yr old to commit arson? Prepare for a lawsuit, Nanny Jo. You know it is coming. It is ALL YOUR FAULT.

It's crap to blame the nanny. The kid was only 1 when she was there and no doubt has zero recollection of the experience.

Hey, you can't fix everyone. As a former Nanny, I can tell you that Supernanny is awesome, but she just gives the tools. It's up to the parents to USE them. These women need to stop having so many kids. You don't need more than a few if it overwhelms you. There is no good reason for some of these overwhelmed mothers to have four kids close together. Get some birth control for God's sake!!

this is in regards to the slide show i thought it was wrong to include alec baldwin and banderas and wife there has never been bad as of yet said about about banderas and wife and as far as baldwin goes he didn't do anything wrong in my opinion, i think that celeb parents are just not known for disciplining their parents like regular people do that wen one finally does and albeit publicly were shocked that he cares so much

Alrighty...... Sounds like Mom and Dad didn't follow through with what they were taught wile Nanny was there.

If this child was 1 when on the show. sounds like they continued back to their old ways .

Kids need attention you just can't expect them to raise themselves while you do whatever you want.

The mother should be fined for having such little monsters. It's entirely the parents fault. At least Jo tried to help. If Mom can't handle all of the children, then it's time to either A) consider hiring a nanny full time or B) USE birth control!!! I'm tired of these parents who can't do their job (which BTW is the most important one they have) and then blame everyone else. Your kid is a brat because you made them that way. Get used to paying restitution and visiting them in jail. These are the criminals of the future.

See what happens when you neglect your kids mom? So instead of blaming anyone else think of how you can change and be a REAL MOM for those kids. Be there for them and learn to use your brain.
