Ellen Cancels Taping

10/18/2007 5:48 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ellen DeGeneresEllen DeGeneres has canceled the taping of her show today.

This comes days after an emotional week for Ellen, who broke down in tears on Tuesday's show, as she recalled how Iggy the dog was ripped away from her hairstylist's home by a rescue organization.

The show issued this statement: "Ellen is taking a long weekend and will be back with a new show on Tuesday."

We're told that Ellen's producers asked country crooner Keith Urban -- who was previously scheduled to appear on the show -- to perform for audience members who had already arrived for the taping, not knowing it was canceled.

I Totally agree with your post, The entire drama was so unnecessary. Mom's & Mutts have no one to blame but themselves.

The post's on here for damage control will do good in the long run for organizations adopting animals, The damage is done and will have a negative impact on donations and adoptions.

This will not be only because of Iggy's situation but because people are now informed with the rules some of these places have and the inability to let go, Most people have no desire to lease a dog.

According to shock jock Howard Stern...who's girlfriend, BTW, is a member of the animal rescue community, Ellen, according to his sources, may have adopted and returned up to 9 dogs in recent years. Stern, an animal rights advocate...helped his girlfriend Beth rescue many unwanted animals in New Orleans, in the days, weeks and months after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area--so he has some major credentials in regard to assisting in the rescue of animals, and knows what he is speaking, hence the reason why he has weighed in on the Ellen issue.

Further, Inside Edition ran pictures of Ellen and her girlfreind pictured on separate occasions with at least 3 dogs...and they questioned whether Ellen and her lover still have possession of these dogs. Also, if I recall correctly, The New York Post has also been investigating Ellen with similar disturbing results!!!

Making matters even worse...it turns out that Ellen and her girlfriend adopted a dog from the animal adoption agency which they are now battling with, just weeks before Iggy...and quickly returned him claiming that he did not get along with their cats. Immediately, the couple then adopted Iggy from the same agency...but after a month, they decided that their cats weren't getting along with Iggy either and quickly got rid of him too.

With that stunning information being the case, Ellen is clearly a problematic animal owner and should not be allowed to adopt an animal, especially dogs, by anyone...at anytime. This, appears to be a repeated, and abusive behavior by the talk show host and her live-in lover...one that needs to be brought to a speedy end!!! Shame on these two selfish and immature people!!! They are abusing the system and traumatizing already traumatized animals whom were rescued from horrible and abusive owners to begin with--now they have been repeatedly uprooted by Ellen and her girlfriend like disposible toothbrushes!!!

Now the real truth is coming out, with more to follow!!! Shame on you Ellen!!! No wonder why you cancelled your Friday show, so you can hide from the press!!!

Why didn't Ellen change the chip information? She could have, because I had to place a dog and the new owner did it herself. She changed it from my info to hers, without any problem. I've heard of others doing the same, even on here.

Ellen and Portia broke the contract and sought media attention, including TMZ. The resulting chaos is the consequence of that. I don't feel sorry for either one, they have adopted before (it's not foreign to them) and Portia signed the contract, which was also read to her.

They can play dumb all they want, it doesn't fool me. If it was an honest mistake (impossible because of the above, but let's pretend) they would have returned the puppy when asked, but they refused. If they thought they were doing a good deed, they wouldn't have kept it quiet, they would have been excited to share the wonderful news.

If they cared, they would have given the puppy a fair shake, they didn't. No shocker, since they have given back others. They don't know the first thing about dogs if they can't deal with them. They are not the best judge of a good home (in general), considering they don't know what it requires.

It's sad that they brought an innocent family into it. I hope the woman didn't feel pressured, since she works for Ellen. I'm certain, Ellen wasn't eager to return yet another pet to rescue and could have been desperate to place the puppy when she didn't know how to deal with him. The family didn't seem broken up, you would expect the children to be visibly upset, not nonchalant.

The bottom line, one dog (highly adoptable, being a small bred puppy and already safe with rescue) is not worth the millions they will hurt over this. Shameful, for a self-described "animal lover"..

Thank you for that added information, Zip. I'm not a Stern fan, but I have some respect for him now. Is there a way to read or listen to what you heard? Do you have a link or anything? Thanks!

What a liar!

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 17, 2007) — As the great Iggy debate continues, a publicist for Ellen DeGeneres has taken it a step further, leaving a seemingly threatening message for doggie rescuer Marina Baktis.

The publicist, Kelly Bush, left the message for the Mutts & Moms agency.

“We’re filing a legal case against you. We’re going to be contacting the media. This is not going to be good for your store or your organization,” Bush said on the tape, which was first played by “Good Morning America.”

However, in an interview with the New York Post’s Page Six, Bush denied making any threats.

“I have not left any threatening messages at all,” she said. “The agency threatened to go to the media and I said that wouldn’t be a good idea. I told them there’s just no need to escalate this... They started this by wanting to take it public. I was the one who said, ‘Let’s talk about this.‘”

It's really a shame the the rescue group didn't take the opportunity to return the dog & get a lot of GOOD publicity about the need for more loving families to adopt rescue animals. They have forgotten in their anger about the many still homeless animals. They now pretty much have mud on their face. Instead of GOOD publicity they have gotten a lot of BAD publicity. What have they gained??? A whole bunch of steps backward!!! Now peopole won't want to adopt from a rescue group because of this. Mutts & Moms...you should be ashamed at the damage that you have done to the rescue effort!!!!!!!

I dont think that contract would swing in court as it is basicly an invasion of privacy. Even the statement that the chip in the animales body is forever registered to M&M is very questionable because if the pet is adopted out it is no longer theirs legaly another issue is the part about makeing the pet a beneficiary in her will and giveing the dog back to the rescue. Their contract seems very bogus and looks like fraud to me.

There are a lot of people, or at least a lot of posts attacking Ellen. Regardless of Ellen's lifestyle, the advisability of her "meltdown" on televison or how many dogs she has adopted, that does not justify Mutts and Moms actions here. Mutts and Moms STOLE A PUPPY FROM A CHILD. They entered the puppy OWNER'S house under false pretenses, and STOLE A PUPPY. They then immediately SOLD THAT STOLEN PUPPY to a BUYER.

The reason that they are getting the problems they have now is due to their own actions. The reason that the story is all over the media is not because of Ellen. It is because puppy stealers make for good news because of PUBLIC OPINION, not Ellen's opinion.

That statement by Ellen's publicist was not a threat. It was a simple observation based on experience that this would not turn out well for Mutts and Moms. Publicists know public opinion. It's their job. And the statement that "this will not be good for you or your orginization" is not a threat. It is a statement of fact. It was not good for the owner or her business because once the public heard about the situation, the public did not like it one bit.

It sounds to me like the publicist was trying to save a herd of idiots from themselves.

Can we please stop calling Mutts and Moms a rescue agency? That gives animal rescue a bad name. Let's call them what they are, an advertising gimmick for a pet store (Paw Boutique). Or maybe we could call them a puppy mill that outsources production? They aren't a rescue agency. Rescue agencies place animals in homes. Pet thieves take pets from homes.

Based on what is written in the Mutts and Moms contract, it is best that no one EVER adopts a dog from this organization. The rules and regulations are way too overbearing and constricting. You never truly own a dog from this organization.

When I read you must obide by the contract and not adopt or bear a child once you adopt one of their dogs .... well this just blew me away BIG TIME!

If anything, this contract must be looked at to see if what they actual have in the contract is even legal.

Although the children want Iggy back, and I feel prior to reading the contract, they should get Iggy back, but I no longer feel that way. I say this because of this contract and what they MUST do and not do, is way to confining leaving the family to be fined for everything and anything EVEN if the dog sticks its head out the window of an open car.

I don't think Ellen's breakdown was soley because of the dog. . . I feel bad that her celebrity status has caused this to be taken much further than it should have. . . I understand where the shelter is coming from, but this didn't have to become such a big deal. . . .

I am glad she took a break and will come back stronger. I am sad that keith Urban's taping was cancelled, i was really looking forward to the show. . .
