Hollywood Horror! FDA Says Botox Can Kill!

2/8/2008 5:39 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

FDA, BotoxThinking of doing a little Botox touch-up for Oscar night? Think again. The FDA just issued a warning, saying the popular cosmetic enhancement can injure or kill!

Most of Tinseltown's bad cosmetic work hasn't been of the Botox kind -- so Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin and Michael Jackson can rest easy ... that is, if there are no mirrors in their bedrooms.

"There are very few reports of these distant effects with cosmetic use, but it's extremely rare," says FDA doc Russell Katz of the injectable. The FDA is still studying the scare, but Katz says face fixers "should be aware that there's a potential for something like this to happen." If Botox goes bad, patients feel weakness and drooping in muscles far away from the injection -- sometimes enough to send them to the hospital -- or the morgue.

That'll cause some frown lines!

Well duh! It's a TOXIN, people. There's a lot to be said for aging naturally and gracefully - just ask Joan Rivers!

This is a load of BS.... First, Botox has been used Medically for the 25 years or so for facial tics and for children with Cerebal Palsy. There has never been a reported allergic reaction to Botox... EVER.... Secondly, it's not Botulism, it's the protien that is found in Botulism that has been purified (by the CDC). Make sure that the doctor uses real Botox and not some over the border concoction...

I receive botox shots inside my eye lids for my Graves Eye Disease every three months and it works. My lids fall and I don't look like I have freak eyes--Yes, it is as painful as it sounds!

This really doesn't surprise me. Who knows what the long term affects of any of this stuff is, all in the name of vanity.

There's nothing wrong w/ Botox. The issue HERE is giving MASSIVE doses to cerebral palsy patients for leg spasms... Something which is NOT approved by the FDA. Just because it is elsewhere doesn't mean jack.

If there were really something wrong, I think I would have heard about it by now. A close relative of mine has been w/ a doc who was one of the first, if not the first (REAL!) plastic surgeon to do Botox in the world. No serious complications >ever

Oh, stop being so dramatic TMZ and making this into something it's not. You're scaring people over nothing.

Tylenol can kill you too. So can half a peanut, if you're allergic.

dammit last bit got cut.

ps Remember boys and girls. If you go to a quack ENT doc in Beverly Hills (hell a dentist can do plastic surgery thanks to the Goverdumbassinator), or fall for one of the $99 Botox specials (WATERED DOWN; lucky if it lasts 2 months compared to 6+) in the L.A. Weekly you're just ASKING for trouble.

I think there are real dangers to any thing if you over do it, or go to a quack. It is injecting a bad thing into your body.
