Hudson Murders -- A Motive Emerges

The motive for the murder of Jennifer Hudson's family could be plain ol' -- but deadly -- jealousy, according to prosecutors.
Read the docs
William Balfour, they allege, warned estranged wife Julia Hudson, Jennifer's sister, he would "harm" her family if she continued to see a new man. Balfour confronted them, they say, on the day of the murders.

We're told Balfour was just brought in to Cook County Jail and booked after his bond hearing today, and is being housed in the general population.

Just a few hours ago, his bail was denied.

76. William and the Hudson family are all ugly.
He probably killed them because of a drug deal gone wrong
Jennifer hellped finance the drug trade run by the mother and brother and sister
Jennifer is dealing with a loser who is riding her coat tails for her money
The apple does not fall far from the tree
She could have put out a statement saying to focus on the investigation and not be so involved in photo ops
But all publicity is good for her

77. Come on guy's open your eye's, even if he did threaten Julia and her family over some guy Julia was dating, it wouldn't be because he was obsessed with Julia or Jealous she had another man, he was obsessed with being a part of the hudson family and her having another man meant that dream dying for him, if you'd seen his myspace he made sure he let everyone know he was a part of the hudson family and how proud he was of Jennifer, he even had Jennifers pic up there, he was obsessed with the idea of being a part of that family and what or where it would get him, it's got nothing to do with Julia, seriously, if he did it, that sounds more likely, the victim here unfortunately is poor Jennifer and the deceased, julia unfortunately made a mistake in letting this man in her life, i sincerely hope the new man is not just another user, all she ever wanted was to make her family proud and for what, hope she is ok.

78. 55. If you were charged with murder and were innocent, and the police offered to give you a lie detector test, would you refuse it?

Posted at 12:09AM on Dec 4th 2008 by Dave

I would because lie detector tests are not 100% reliable. Many innocent people have been put up as guilty while many guilty people have actually beaten the test. DNA and physical evidence is far more reliable than a lie detector or even an eye witness.

79. THE CPD IS LYING. THEY SAID JASON THE DOPE DRUG KINGPIN WAS SHOT THROUGH THE DOOR
NOW, THE CPD SAYS HE WAS SHOT IN THE BED
LIARS
TRYING TO CLOSE A CASE TOO SOON
BALFOUR SHOULD BE SUCCESSFUL IN HIS APPEAL
IF A BLACK IS ASSUMED GUILTY HE STAYS IN JAIL
IF A WHITE CASEY ANTHONY IS ASSUMED GUILTY SHE GETS BAIL

80. I believe Jennifer Hudson financed this drug den because she knew what they were doing all along
She kept sending her mother money
Listen, no one ever got charged
They most likely used her celebriality for their get out of jail free card
JENNIFER IS NO INNOCENT IN ANY OF THIS
SHE EVEN STATES IN INTERVIEWS THAT SHE LOVED GOING BACK HOME
DRUG DEAL GONE BAD AND THE MOTHER AND BROTHER AND JULIA WERE INVOLVED
THEY PUT THE YOUNG BOY IN DANGER BECAUSE OF THEIR LUST FOR THE GAME

81. YESSIE -- I agree with you totally. Jennifer had to know that they were selling drugs in that house. I believe the mother was selling it too. And, we all know Julia was selling drugs. I feel it was a drug deal gone bad. I also think the CPD must have been getting kick-backs from the Gang, cause nobody ever got arrested when found with drugs at that house. From sun-up to sun-down Jason sat in a chair in front of the house selling drugs. Now you tell me, the CPD knew nothing of his activities. Balvour is INNOCENT.

82. Here's a piece of an article from the SunTimes, It mentioned that Julia left for work and Balfour left too...QUESTIN???? if Julia no longer had the car how did she leave and did she catch the bus that morning to work???? Im not understanding...If you all remember when the news first broke to the media the amber alert listed both vehicles as missing.. so what was Julia using as transportation. And if Julia and Balfour partied the night before the murders for her birthday, apparently they wanted to continue celebrating the following morning. That is why Balfour was there cause they had a rendevous and we they both went their separate ways, The HIT came in and waited for them to leave...A close source has said that Jason drug dealing played a key role in the murders..If you paid attention to the press conference that the DA gave, A news reporter asked him if there are any other suspects, he said no comment, another reporter asked if Jason drug history played a role in the murders, he said no comment... I would believe he would of easily said no to both questions if their case was strong against Balfour. The no comment response just clearly says that the MOTIVE (Jealousy) is absurd!!! If balfour was jealousy because Julia found a new love and he did not want her seeing another man, The DA/CPD should easily clear Jason's name and his drug dealing history so that they could convinced the public that this case is solely based on BALFOUR being jealousy and pissed abput julia moving on with her life without him............Help me understand

On Oct. 24, Balfour stopped by the Hudson home for a visit, prosecutors said. After he saw the birthday gift -- balloons, according to a source -- he warned Julia Hudson again about seeing other men, prosecutors said. But Hudson didn't take Balfour's threats about harming her family seriously -- he'd made them before, and nothing happened. SO JULIA HUDSON WENT TO WORK.

PROSECUTORS SAY BALFOUR LEFT, TOO, but then returned a short time later, armed with a handgun. Prosecutors say Balfour shot Donerson several times while she was in her living room. Balfour entered Jason Hudson's bedroom, and shot him twice in the head while he was in bed.

Then, prosecutors say, Balfour grabbed Julian King and put him inside Jason Hudson's white Chevrolet Suburban. The boy was shot in the head inside the SUV, prosecutors say. Investigators found Julian's body three days later inside the SUV, parked on the West Side.

83. Braindamaged2too are you sure that you know what you are talking about? William Balfour was never convicted of Manslaughter but I have read more than one of you comments that say that. It is clear that Julia was involved in this and it's sad that she is partying the same day of the funeral for her immediate family and posting the pictures yet again.......On her Myspace page. I think it's all ridiculous.

Posted at 4:09PM on Dec 6th 2008 by What have you been reading????????

84. To ikno

You have a lot of valid points, I was wondering why it took them 5 weeks to come up with this jealousy, a couple of days before his parole hearing,

If the neighbors heard them arguing that morning and Belfour threaten the family then shortly after they hear guns shots nobody bother to look to see what was going on???????????They look to see that they was arguing............or did they look and close their shades like they didn't want to see it. Help me understand Chicago!!!!!!!!!!!!

85. Did Jason Hudson have a job or did he make all of his money from selling drugs??? I have read that the childs father was also a drug dealer, has he said anything about the murder of his son???

I agree that if this goes to trial it is going to be explosive, and I am not convinced that Balfour is the killer.

86. Can someone help me understand: Their was a lady on the news that
said she seen 2 men get out of the SUV. Their was 2 other people said
that they notice the SUV park across the street from their house on
Sunday. Just say maybe they didn't notice it until Sunday possible
it was park on Friday. Just so CPD can make a case. What happen to
the other person that was seen leaving the SUV???????? Then he goes
to take the shower curtain to cover Julian up after he was going to
shoot him but he was shot in the SUV. Not understant that!!! Also CPD
found gun powder resdue in William car lets just say they did, how can
they say it wasn't their from William shooting a gun previously, the
GF did say she seen him with a gun, how can they determine that's the
same gun resdue?????????Help me understand!!!!!!! Who ever drove that
SUV didn't have gun powder resdue on there hands or gloves but just
maybe William changed gloves in mist of the murders. Just like he
thought about taking that shower curtain! Their was a lot of events
that took place to act along. I know you all don't want to hear this
but Ms. Belfour is going to be driving that Bentley.

87. If someone shots through your door that's not force entry in Chicago? They just change it to home invasion.

Posted at 10:31AM on Dec 6th 2008 by Monitor

88. Hey people I have something new!!!! Sources is saying that they are charging Balfour with home invasion because things were taking from the home, the suspects were looking for something...The intruders took Jason's stash of cash and drugs...Now if this entire investigation is wrapped around Balfour being obsessed and Jealous of Julia's new relationship why was the drugs and money taken from the home...This was a drug hit on Jason and CPD knows it...They are trying to cover up CPD and word is CPD has been taking bribes from the drug dealers on the southside read the papers its all linked..WAKE UP PEOPLE Balfour is being framed and Julia knows it. Julia also has some dirt on CPD, she might as well spill the beans.. And not once did BALFOUR mother talk bad about the hudson family, she has reached out to them and Balfour's mother has been in tthe media and she never said a negative word about the Hudson's and going back to Julia's press conference ...a reporter asked her a questions in regards to her estranged husband and she said something to the fact like they already got there suspect so im not worried about that...Balfour was not a suspect at the time this was only the day after the murders and then someone cut her off saying we are not going to discuss William at this time our main concern is finding Julian.... Julia you know and the gang kno wat it is...Julia c'mon naa'h

89. For Monitor - Another reason I thought the "gunshot residue on the steering wheel" thing was absurd is because we already KNOW that someone other than William Balfour drove his car to the neighborhhoood high school and parked it there and walked away around 12:30 PM on Friday (just a short time after we believe the murders of Jason and Darnell happened). But we also KNOW that at that time, William (as police earlier reported was proven through his cell phone traces) had already been in the Lawndale area (girlfriend's house) for several hours. So, he was NOT the one driving the car when it was left near the high school. Police have publicly released this information. So why should the SAO assume that any"gunshot residue" that may have been on the steering wheel of the car was left by William's hands? It could easily have gotten there when anyone else who may have fired a weapon, perhaps the same weapon that killed Darnell and Jason, left the family home after the crime and dumped the car.

I also think it's odd that the SAO is referencing William's early morning visit to the Hudson family home as being for the purpose of threatening Julia. I am thinking that it had a different purpose.... to give her the car so she would stop fussing about the lack of transportation, the missed car payments that had resulted in her wage garnishment, and just to stop the argument. It would also have been easy for him to get public transportation back to Lawndale, since the house is very close to a bus line and the rapid transit (train) line that runds down the expressway (just about 2 blocks from the house). Typically, one doesn't pay an ordinary "social visit" or a "serious talk" with friends or family at 7 AM in the morning, when folks are either getting up and ready for work, or still asleep if they are not working or have a day off. This whole scenario that the States Attorney's Office is stating to the public as their "case" makes no sense.

One of our long-time respected Chicago newspaper columnists, Mary Mitchell of the Chicago Sun Times, makes some related points in her recent column. She also emphasizes the fact that, despite the availability of "two bloody crime scenes," as she calls them (the house where Darnell and Jason were killed, and the SUV where Julian was shot) the police have found NO physical evidence to directly connect William Balfour to the crime.

I'm on the same page with her... many of us who have followed the case also believe that if police had actually found any meaningful evidence, the charges would have come much sooner. Something else is happening here.

Others who've posted on this thread have expressed the belief that the Chicago Police Department is rushing to judgment here just to close the case. I personally don't think the CPD is behind this. I think they probably just turned over whatever information they had... including the doubts, inconsistencies, and conflicts... to the SAO, and someone at another level decided to move forward with this (perhaps in an ill-advised attempt to help Jennifer avoid the stress of possibly having the "dirty laundry" of other family members made public).

But I don't think it will work. The SAO's case, at this point, appears to be based on the "testimony" of a person whose credibility is questionable for several reasons (William's girlfriend) and the "motive" of a bunch of birthday balloons triggering a jealous rage that ended in a triple homicide. That's hard to believe even for the media, and those of us in the ranks of the general public who have been following the case. They've got to know that William's attorney, acting on his behalf, will see the absurdity of these arguments also, as would a jury if the case goes to jury trial.

As William's attorney has stated, the "testimony" of the "witness" is totally unbelievable... if, in fact, it ever even happened.

90. For #87 - ikno - we're on the same page here. If William wanted/needed any of Jason's stuff (drugs, cash, weapon) he would have found an easier way to do this... no need to kill anyone. He had lived in the house for several years, was a childhood pal of Julia, Jason, and Jennifer, so he would know where stuff was stashed, and also tknow the routines of family members. Not hard to figure out when they might be out, or how to wander around that big house (it's a big 3-story house with a 3-story outside porch too) when they were otherwise occupied.

I'm thinking that the family figures it might just be easier to put this all on William instead of risking the airing of any of the family's dirty laundry that might reflect poorly on them. Can't blame them for trying, but this case is so weak that I doubt it will hold up in a court of law.
